Bought the 530 refurb on the last deal and I'm a big fan. It records my routes with more accuracy than my iphone, and it automatically syncs to strava and in turn trailforks. All i have to do is press a button and bam it's recording. Reduces the battery drain on my phone. After using it a couple times i can safely say i feel no need to have a touch screen. However that might be a different scenario if i was road biking in unfamiliar territory. This thing definitely does the job though.

Anyone have experience with refurbished units from GPS City? The 1030 at that price is very tempting.
As others have noted, my refurb 530 from GPS city appeared to be in like new condition. As someone that needs reading glasses, I do find being able to read the screen a bit of a challenge without glasses. Navigation with buttons is pretty intuitive once you play around with it a bit.

Can anyone vouch that the 1030 is worth the $100 price premium over the 530?

Can anyone of these be used for Motorcycling
I think a phone would likely work better for motorcycling (longer battery life in GPS mode being the only reason I can think of). Most of the other features are likely pretty specific to the human element of being the engine. Only exception would be to cheat on Strata (no idea if that is still a thing).

1030 includes 2 year warranty if bought from gpscity on eBay, but only one if bought on their website.

I appreciate the larger display of the 1030, allows MUCH easier visibility for multiple road cycling parameters. 530 is okay if you are okay flipping through screens, do not require real time access to lots of data.

Garmin computers are much more rugged than most smartphones, eliminates the risk of losing a $1k smartphone if/when there is a crash, mount fails.

If Garmin factory refurbs, I would jump on the 1030 for $250 in a heartbeat, as they will offer a replacement in the event ANY issues arise.

I've purchased an auto GPS from them and so did my uncle, and no issues!

I got the 530 from previous deal and it looked like new and is operating great. The battery might not be as great as new, or maybe just the battery in the 530 isn't quite what I expected... it drops below 90% after just an hour for me. Linked to cadence, speed, and heart rate sensors with gps on. Might be the expected life.

If I hadn't gotten that one, I'd get this one. But having the 530 now if I do upgrade in the future it'll be to a 1040 solar.

All my riding is paved roads.

This is 2 generations behind, but decent if you don't need fastest OS and extra GPS satellite support.

Thoughts on using this as a hiking companion rather than for hiking?

Thank you. I bought the 1030 and will sell my 530. Flipping through screens was driving me crazy.

Why would you risk damaging a $1000 phone when you can use a dedicated and fully featured device for $250?
