How would I even power this? If I directly connect it to the 12v system of my car will it fry my electrical system?

Also, it looks like it's specified as a 3kw-continuous, 6kw-'surge' inverter.
Neither, do I see a ~220+VAC output.

I've personally noticed that MSW inverters and UPS work fine with ActivePFC SMPS (like your desktop PC's), *only when* getting 200+VAC RMS.

Ex. My network equipment wasn't happy on a 'cheapy' 120VAC UPS; but using an international 230VAC UPS, everything works great.
(I'm a special case though, since I was lucky enough to have access to a 20A dual-pole ~240VAC 60hz circuit in my office/homelab.)

So all you need to do is hook up a standard car battery and you can get 3000 Watts for about $300 total ($50 for the battery). To get 3000 watts from an Ecoflow system you need to spend about $3000. If you can run appliances from this then this seems like an amazing deal.

The inverter isn't the expensive part, it's the batteries if you want any kind of run time.

You are going to exhaust a regular car battery pretty darn quick pulling anywhere near 3,000 watts. laugh out loud

Also flooded lead acid batteries (car batteries) aren't designed to be depleted like this. They recommend not getting the battery below 80 percent of the capacity (around 10.5 volts) because taking the cycle any deeper will cause irreversible damage to the plates through excessive sulfation.

So yeah, you can use your car battery in a pinch, but the inverter is the cheap part in your setup. The expensive part are, you guessed it, the batteries…

Thanks for the help but I am thinking of emergency use —and of course not at the maximum of 3000 watts— for example running a refrigerator for 8 hours until power comes back and then recharging the battery. Also maybe running a hot plate long enough to heat a can of food. Marine batteries are supposed to be pretty powerful. Any idea how long it would take to drain a marine battery to damaging levels using it like this

You need a deep cycle battery for that purpose. At least a marine battery. They are around $100. Let me know where you find a $50 one with decent capacity for that purpose.

This is good on paper but not very practical unless you hook it up with multiple batteries. If you just hook it up with one deep cycle or marine battery (80-250Ah), it would not last very long with 3000W output. Nevertheless, there are situations that you need such a setup such as a short outdoor event with high power equipment. In most cases, a lower output inverter would be sufficient for most appliances at home.
