Not that long ago $900 dollars was only going to get you an i5 and 1650. GPU prices going down and probably the upcoming 40XX series launch are helping prices a lot. Some of the laptop deals on here recently have been decent also.
It used to be like that. But I just checked the PNY 1060 OC card I bought 6 years ago, the current price is even higher. The price I paid is about the same as buying a used one right now.

I bought the Costco version of this for 850, but with the hard drive and the worse CPU. Guess Costco has a better warranty too. Worth spending the $50 to upgrade?

I'm just going to take a minute to complain about the ports...
1 usb 3.2 gen2
a usb-c that only supports 5gb/s transfer rate

They really cheaped out on the motherboard. I would have liked to see usb-c with 2x2 for 20gb/s and the enclosures for 2x2 are well priced.
Out of curiosity, what for? I only use USB C to charge my phone so just curious what applications I'm missing out on.

Some thoughts to share

I got this one from the costco deal ($1K)
Pro - It works well and pretty quite. Use standard ATX PSU
Cons - case is very cramped. Lack of ports on the back (only 1 audio jack, RJ port and 4 USB 2.0ports) and only 2 DDR4 slots.

Last week I also ordered the Dell XPS 8950 that was onsale for $1187.50. My blue Amex card got the $120 off $599 and $50 off $100 Dell order. Both coupons are stackable. Final price
difference was around $60 before tax.

I'll return the Lenovo one back to Costco.

The main difference between the Lenovo and Dell XPS are
- XPS has 4 DDR5 slots
- extra M.2 slots for storage
- more I/O ports on the back and SD connector in the front.
- Lenovo has 3060 12Gb, Dell has 3060 TI 8Gb
- Dell chasis is much easier to work with.
- Lenovo used Gen3 (Intel 670), Dell used Samsung Gen4 SSD

Cons - Dell used custom PSU (only 420watt).
I have a 2008 Dell XPS 630i and a 2020 Lenovo Legion 5i. Dell has much better software support and ensuring the latest drivers are compatible with your PC. Lenovo has very bad software support, they are the slowest OEM to rollout the latest drivers for your PC compared to HP and Dell. Lenovo does not even support Windows 11 on my 2020 Lenovo Legion 5i, so I am stuck on Windows 10. It is pretty much guaranteed when Windows 12 comes out and you want to upgrade to Windows 12, the Lenovo Ideacentre 5i won't support it.

The only reason why I went with Lenovo was because the Dell XPS 8940 ran too hot for intensive gaming and the CPU would thermal throttle. But now that the Dell XPS 8950 does not CPU thermal throttle, I would go with the Dell; especially, if you plan on upgrading to Windows 12 sometime in 2024.

No comment on this deal, except to say that I get nervous with a name like 5i, that's because I remember another major brand at another major retailer with a name similar to 7i that actually had an i5. Yup I got burned lol. I suspect that this is a whole lot better.

They're all picky to the point where you want 100% matched sets of the same brand, speed, and latency. Ideally all purchased from the same fabrication.

The days of just throwing unmatched DIMMs ended around the Pentium 3 era.

It's not as bad as rambus (remember that?) used to be, where it would flat out refuse to run if mismatched.

However, it won't be optimal in terms of performance because of dual and quad channel pairing.
What exactly do you think it does if you run RAM from different batches.
Hint: it either runs at a given speed and timings or it doesn't.
So if you run XMP or adjust it to the timings the Newegg specs or whatever says it runs at what do you think it does if they're from different batches? Blows up? Secretly runs slower?

This isn't really that great because out of the gate you're upgrading the ram so that's a hundred bucks for 32 gigs. You're also spending another hundred bucks for a one tb ssd just to get you up to a reasonable storage level at 1.5 total. You're at 1100 bucks now which means more options including just buying the parts you want in the first place and putting it together

external enclosures for nvme drives, docking solutions, Compact flash card readers. Intel 12gen chipsets support up to TB4 so you can get 40Gb/s transfer rates. The transfer rates can help depending on your profession/ hobby. Transferring large media files whether it be for video/ photo editing, content creation, etc.

To be fair you can add those ports using the extra pcie slot on the motherboard if it has one.

heating is not an issue, check out the review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKkAv8mOvyc

CPU temp is about 75 degrees during gaming. That's acceptable.

PSU is 500W and uses standard size. So, you can upgrade the GPU later if you like. By the way, the CPU is quite powerful.

Also, upgrading memory is not bad, just swap out the existing (8x2) with 16x2. And sell the old memory. DD4 is relatively cheap now.

This is the best deal for gaming PC right now.
I agree. People should know what they're getting into with most prebuilts (I'm typing this on a prebuilt Lenovo ideacentre from 2012 that I've modded extensively). There's another guy on youtube who did some very basic mods to this model (or a very similar one) and received some very nice temperature reductions. He replaced the exhaust fan and added an intake (not sure if this one has an intake or not, but there's an opening for one) using Noctua products. He also replaced the cheap CPU cooler with an aftermarket low profile model. I suppose you could also add a side intake utilizing the perforations on the side panel - I did that to my old lenovo and it worked well.
