Setting a new standard

Exceptional speakers for the price. However, they do take quite some time to "break-in." I played music through them for at least 5 hours a day during the weekdays and longer on the weekends but it wasn't until I had them for over 2-weeks that they started to sound better than they did out of the box.
The midrange details brought out by the Borea BR03 are amazing. Details I'd heard in the background before (backing vocals, instruments playing softer behind the main set) come forward enough ...so that they are noticeable but not distracting. Bass response for a 6" paper cone woofer is very good. The tweeters disperse sound into the room effortlessly. The treble and the soundstage is very, very, wide, nuanced, and non-fatiguing.
The fit & finish on these is great. I got a set that has the Walnut finish on the sides, top, and back with a dark grey (almost black) face and the combination looks great. The grills are almost transparent. The magnets at the 4 corners raise the speakers off of the dark fascia and allow the light in behind them so you can still see the tweeter, woofer, and bass ports on the front (but not as obvious as you would without the grills on).
The Borea BR03 by Triangle Audio are outstanding and they have set the bar high for the competition to try and match up. In my humble opinion, no one else out there even comes close at this price.

ELAC b41 @ $68 and debut 2 @ $150 is our black friday hopeful.
I don't think budgetaudiophiles would budge at any other price this season, talked to alot of them, they've all had to cut way back on the hobby due to gas and food prices.

haha. It's good to have wish lists, but i have no idea what will come
Stupid question: can you use passive speakers like this with powered speakers? I have Audio Engine powered speakers with a dead right speaker and am wondering if my powered bookshelf speaker would work with one passive speaker without having to buy an amp. Basically just wondering it's possible to use an RCA input from a powered speaker to the output line of a passive speaker.

Audioengine A5 should have a passive right speaker. If the amp and speaker cable is ok it should power another speaker just fine.

Assuming that your powered speaker has an amp that powers the "right" speaker which is passive then it would work BUT since they are different speakers with different sensitivities one (chances are the Triangle) would be quieter than the other. Don't throw good money after bad.

Your RCA doesn't connect to the passive speaker. Use speaker wire to connect them.
You normally wouldn't buy OPs speakers and drive them with this type of amp. For the money a higher end receiver would make a noticeable difference (Older 2 channel Harman Kardon, Rotel, B&K...) The drivers in your A5s are probably very sensitive (efficient).

Theoretically yes, your dead speaker is a passive speaker, you can swap another passive speaker in.
However, the sound and volume differences will be intolerable if it's not the same speaker. Your left and right speakers will not sound the same
I own the BR02 - smaller version with same tweeter, smaller bass driver with tighter bass but less bass volume. I am using the Loxjie A30 integrated DAC and amp. This amp is a great bang for the buck amp and can drive the BR03 as well. Highly recommend the amp and should get serious consideration if you dont have an amp.
