Good price, but don't fall for the $629. These are basically $399 as an everyday price.

Stupid question: can you use passive speakers like this with powered speakers? I have Audio Engine powered speakers with a dead right speaker and am wondering if my powered bookshelf speaker would work with one passive speaker without having to buy an amp. Basically just wondering it's possible to use an RCA input from a powered speaker to the output line of a passive speaker.
It's a terrible idea. Your left and right shall match. Otherwise, just drop some driver in the dead one and it will make sound!

Thanks for this tip! I missed the boat last time and have been regretting it ever since. The reviews everywhere are glowing. I'll be teaming these up with a Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer. I can't wait to start breaking them in!

Can you possibly obtain a replacement Audio Engine right speaker and thus ensure matched characteristics?

If anyone is on the fence, here are some reviews that persuaded me to buy:

https://www.soundstageaccess.com/...udspeakers

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/...borea-br03

https://www.soundstagehifi.com/in...pectacular

And a YouTube review after 8 months of living with them:

This one is way too technical (or precious) for me but maybe it'll inform you:

Would this be a good starter point for an eventual 5.1.2 system? Paired with perhaps a Denon AVR-S760H receiver? I suppose these would be the front 2 speakers for now.

Technically it will work. But it's not that simple. It depends on the speaker spec. These are 8 ohm and can dip to 3.2 ohm which no doubt the amp in the active speaker won't handle. Also, the sensitivity of this will be diff from the audio engine. Worst case you're risking blowing the active speakers amp/speaker and best case, it works but the sound signature will be definitely different.

I suggest buying a replacement right speaker for your audio engine. I'm sure OfferUp or Facebook market place have them. It will be cheaper than this with an active speaker or this + a decent used amp.

I have been pricing around for these and it's lowest at this time.
Glad I did not get them yet. Too bad Light Oak is not included or I may have bit.

With BF (black friday) around the corner, I will wait til then to avoid buyer's remorse.
With finding good deals, timing and patience is essential.

He's trying to power the passive speaker with the RCA cable. He needs to use speaker wire. User error.

They're not really comparable.

The Klipsch Fives are powered speakers so they have an amplifier built in (plus many other features).

These are passive speakers so you need an amplifier to drive them.

So it depends what you're looking for.

I have recently bought the Triangle Bro 2s and love them. Agree about the poor finish though. That said, I love the look (I went with all white). However, they sound fantastic so I can live with the slightly imperfect mitre joins and cheap vinyl.

Then it depends what dac & amp you got. If a crappy basic set, then probably the Klipsch. If a decent set, Triangles!

I couldn't tell you as I have no experience with the fives. Reviews seem to be positive, but I've tried several speakers with positive reviews that did not work out for me. That's why my advice is to buy the speakers from a dealer with a generous return policy like Costco or Amazon and just try them out yourself.

Amazon has the BR02 (5.25" version) for only $249 which actually would be more comparable in size to the Fives:

https://www.amazon.com/triangle-H...487&sr=8-2

Then you can buy the Fives from Costco which IIRC has an amazing return policy.

And return the one you don't like.

This is the best way to know for sure.
