I had one to pick up on the target deal. Ended up getting the TCL target deal for the 65 for a little bit more which was based on the comments here. It was after I picked up the 43 in for $130 and was impressed by the picture thanks to all the Slickdeals fam for the recs. I never knew anything about TCL but very happy with the TCL purchase and quality of picture.

I've had. I've bought 2 in the past 10 years and they are still working today one in 2012 and the other on BF of 2015 a 32 inch and a 50 or 55 inch.
I agree. Westinghouse brand is not as bad as some people are stating here. I have owned Westinghouse television without any issues. Picture isn't as sharp, but price is great for kids / guests television

I haven't bought a TV in almost a decade, but I'm in the market. Would you mind elaborating and maybe suggesting a quality brand that's also inexpensive?

I'm guessing most people claiming it is a bad brand have never owned one. I had one about 15 years ago, and kept it for 10 years. I used to repair TV's so I notice small inconsistencies. I saw early signs of the light panel dimming which is normal. My family still did not notice. By then TV prices had plummeted so I replaced it and gave the old one to a friend who still uses it and has not had any issues with it. I would certainly buy one again.

I have a Hisense 65 and the Target deal Westinghouse 65, both Roku TVs - If you wanted a quality movie room TV I'm sure you shouldn't expect it for $250, but for the stuff my kids watch they both look the same to me

Use rtings.com and find something that suits your budget. Well-reviewed budget brands include Hisense and TCL.

That being said, if your last TV was purchased a decade ago, this will very likely be an upgrade for you.

TongFang currently have the license to Westinghouse and have manufactured under that brand since 2010. So, the Westinghouse you owned was made by Westinghouse Digital, a different, pre-Westinghouse Electronics organization.

TongFang also manufactures the Element brand, which are typically poorly reviewed.

I see some people here speaking well of Westinghouse and obviously there's going to be panel variance and subjective expectations that play a role in satisfaction, but I think quite a few of the older posters here talking about owning a Westinghouse 10-15 years ago may have been buying TVs manufactured by a completely different company.

I was wondering that because I got the Hisense deal last time, a 65 inch android TV for $250. So does it mean, Hisense is better than Westin house?
Yes. Hisense is a half decent budget brand, Westinghouse not so much.

TCL is a bit underrated. I have had good experience with TCL products.

TCL and Hisense are cheap but decent enough quality. Vizio, Amazon Fire TV, and TCL 6 Series are a slight step above those.

That's fair. For a kids/guest room it's probably fine. But I don't think most people are buying a 65" for a kids or a guest room. Unless you live in a mcmansion and your kids room is the size of most people's master. And a 65" for a guest?

That's the brand I was trying to think of! Element. That's the third brand I said I wasn't impressed with. The picture wasn't blurry, but the contrast was kinda bad. I was driving myself nuts at 6 AM trying to figure out what that brand was called.

Probably an unpopular opinion on this site but TVs in guest bedrooms are tacky, and the tackiness is directly correlated with the size of the TV. Please don't put a 55" or 65" TV in a guest bedroom people.

I bought an Element early LCD back after TongFang were granted Westinghouse's branding and yeah good lord was that a horrible TV. The black levels were basically navy blue.

But that was a different era. I admittedly haven't owned a Westinghouse but that's also bc I've seen enough of them on display at stores and have read enough poor reviews to know to avoid them.

The reliability of most brands is getting to be similar in my opinion.

I've had friends with two TCLs, and one of them broke about 6 months after the warranty ended (2.5 years). Other one seems fine. My work bought like 4 Vizio 65" TVs back when they were the cheapest name brand you could get for about 1000. I think there was only 1 left working after 2 years.

Had a friend that got a 5 series Samsung 55" and that thing didn't even last 2 years.

Apparently 2020 Samsung stopped making their own panels. Not worth it anymore since TVs are so cheap now, most people aren't willing to spend extra for quality. So most if not all of the mid to lower tier TVs have China panels and parts in them.

So reliability is relative now. I wouldn't buy the Westinghouse just for the reputation. But You can get a TCL or Hisense for like 300-350. Samsung and LG for around $400-500.

I'm not like most people on SD that like to change their TVs every couple of years. So I'd be willing to at least spend the $100 extra for better picture and a bit more reliability.

To the guy that said he had a 10 year old 32" or whatever Westinghouse and it works fine. That's probably the exact same model TV I was talking about that a friend had. It was either a 32" or a 40". I just was not a fan of the picture. Maybe it was cuz I was sitting at an angle at the time, but every time I came over to their place I wondered why the picture looked like that. It was fine, still HD, I just wouldn't buy one myself that's all. Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, and if you're not in a rush, I'm sure you can get a better TV for the price on BF. It'll probably be a BF special though, cheaped down parts for the doorbusters. But football season is almost halfway through, so there's no rush. Just wait another month.

Putting similar Michelin tires on a 1978 Ford Pinto and a 2018 Toyota Camry doesn't make them the same car. LMAO
