My experience with Coleman is that they have been the ONLY tent that did not leak in torrential downpours on our North Coast of California. Recently had a REI house brand 4 person tent leak at the seams and a Marmot 6 person that leaked. The build quality of the Marmot is excellent and after hitting it with fabric sealer, it's been fine, but it was a $350. tent and I would expected it to be a highly rated tent.

Looks like the Amazon one is no longer available at this price. Target still looks good.

Amazon description says it weighs 17 pounds making it too heavy for backpacking imo. Anyone have suggestions for similar size/style and what I can expect to pay? Thanks!

6 usually means 4 and 4 usually means 2 and 2 usually means you and your pet.

For just +$3, larger capacity w/ screen area (gear/shoes).
https://www.target.com/p/coleman-...A-49143327 only $70, better reviews.
I guess you give up the "dark room."
Which of the 3 listed are best for occasional family of 4 overnighter?

I've owned and used this tent about 4 times over the last few years. It's a great tent, and the dark feature is a must have if you don't like waking up at the crack of dawn. No complaints truly, and a great deal at this price. I paid a Covid premium for it when I got mine.

"6-man tent" and "backpacking" is a bit like saying "Honda Accord" and "off-roading"!

17 pounds is actually not too bad for a tent this size.

I think the REI 4-man I have was $250 back in the day when I bought it (the Mrs, myself, and baby); then I put my two older boys and the smelly dog in a Mountain Hardwear 3-man that was around $250 on closeout.

Lightweight tents are nice...but the good ones will cost you.

Coleman is good for basic car camping or back yard sleepovers.

But....I'd never take this bad boy out if the weather looked the least bit ominous. Been camping with other family and friends for many years now, I've seen too many Coleman disasters from bad wind gusts, a hard night of rain, etc.

Nothing wrong with a $70 tent....unless you expect it to behave like a $200+ tent in bad weather.
I own the Costco version of this tent. I'm no hardcore back country hiker, but this tent has served my family of four well, and seen two kids through scouting. We've camped in heavy rain without getting wet and kept fairly comfortable in temps down into the 30°s.

My only complaint is that the dark color while nice for keeping the sun out, does turn the tent into an oven on hot sunny days.

I'm sure there are some good Coleman tents out there that manage the elements well. I'd certainly buy this over the stuff from Wally world that you sometimes trickle through for a SlickDeal.

If it works for you, then great. Glad you got one that handles the rain well. Hasn't been my experience camping with other days.

I did say it's a good tent for the price.

Here's where the 'meh' kicks in for me...one look at that fly and it's a hard pass for me if there's any chance of heavy rain and 25+mph wind gusts. You're gonna want a fuller fly if you are going to manage rain/wind well.

Also just my opinion, but I've seen very few tents that manage temps well in direct sunlight. That personally would not be a deal-breaker for this tent.

Fyi, Amazon sold out of their new stock. They have a good amount of used. The downside, it's at the same price as the new one..

I very very much suggest a "cabin" style tent over these dome tents. Walls are more vertical, meaning you get a fair amount of extra space for the same footprint. For Coleman, it's called the skylodge. Even better if it's an instant up, because odds are you're going car camping. Last time I suggested it here, it was like $90 on Amazon for the regular, non-block out one.

I've got a very similar version of this that was sold at another retailer under a different model. Great size, though it's a little tight on some camping spots, and even more so in dispersed camping. Unless you REALLY need to sleep 4 adults very comfortably, look into the 4 person cabin style, which is tall enough for most people to stand in, and will fit 2 adults and a kid or a dog comfortably. Added bonus is that it's much easier for one person to put up (the 6 person is doable, for me).

My 2 adult, 1 kid family used this tent to camp in the Black Hills this past Memorial Weekend and it was very windy and we had some rainstorms - we were concerned it wasn't going to make it, but everything was dry and no poles snapped. Loved the dark room for sleeping in later. The rainfly does cover all windows, but if you staked out the centers you could get airflow just fine.

Dude, the front and back do have windows...the SIDES do NOT! They are completely mesh from about 2 feet up (and there is nothing to zip up or down). You can actually see that on the pictures as well if you look close enough. Do you have this tent? I do and I just used it last weekend. It's an OK tent and you aren't going to find anything better for this price.

That is... Exactly what I said? 🤔

I think this is a great tent for a 6 person dome tent. Not sure if you took it as me thinking it wasn't.

I think the confusion comes down to this:
One of your posts claimed the rainfly covers ALL windows. Also on another one of your posts you said you DIDN'T have this tent, but a similar one. But now you post the exact opposite of those claims?

I think you are just having a misunderstanding. No problem intended.

Two queen beds would be 120" wide (10ft). This 6 person tent I think is effectively 9.5ft x 9.5ft in floor width. So yeah, two queen beds would be a tight fit, too much up against the tent edges.

Also typically you don't want a mattress, sleeping bag or gear pressed up against a tent sides, as that can cause wicking of moisture to the inside. My rule of thumb for tent size, is divide by two the rated tent capacity. In that case, this six person tent would be good for 3 persons with decent amount of gear, or 4 persons max with lesser gear.
