You don't say. Thanks for pointing out that these aren't LifeStraw products.

I posted not so long ago about these guys. Basically, this company has been making reverse osmosis filters and filters in general for over a decade. I have been purchasing their products for a while now for my RO system. They offer great value for price. I have never had any issues with them. They definitely know their filters. I personally have not tried this product, but I wouldn't hesitate.

Not filter guy but how's it compare to the filtration from a lifestraw?

Somewhat dead. It has a $10 coupon now, bring it down to $20. Not the 15 shown. Doesn't seem like too bad of a deal still though

With the $10 coupon and s&s (15%), it brings it brings it down to $15.49 for me.

I did a bit of research and found the lifestraw uses an iodine filter. The good thing about that is that it does kill a lot of bacteria. The bad is that the water needs to be exposed to the iodine for a while. So it actually may not kill all bacteria, just depends how fast it passes through. They claim a 0.2 micron size, which is good for most waters. It also has good water flow, which means you don't have to suck as hard, it also means it won't filter as well.I also believe that lifestraw has different filters depending on your country. They do have a membrane version.

The membrane solutions uses a membrane instead of iodine. Their membrane is 0.1 microns, which will filter many of not all bacteria. The good thing about a membrane is that it uses pressure to filter particles and bacteria. The bad thing about a membrane is that the more it filters, the harder it will get to suck and filter water. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing because that's a good indicator that you need a replacement. Membranes last 1-2 years with water exposure. So I'm sure you can use these for multiple trips in between months.

Overall, they take the same approach with cleaning water and use the same technology in a can. Depending on the water source, you can clog these things real fast, which is what they're supposed to do. While they advertise 1k gallons on most of these. I would probably replace them on 100-200 gallons depending where I'm drinking water from.
