I owned an a7c for a year now and i have also used an a7iv. a7iv is definitely the better camera but now you have to factor in the cost as a7iv is $1000 dollars more expensive. Depending on your budget you might want to invest that in a good f1.4 lens if you want low light shots etc. If you have the money great. But if you need a camera right now, an a7c with a good 1.4 lens will be better (for low light) than if you exhausted your budget and stuck with a a7iv f2.8 lens or slower. The other things to consider is definitely if you need dual card slots (a7c is single slot) and whether you need more buttons. A7c is also way more compact in size than a7iv. The color science and menu system is also better than a7c.

That raises the same questions as with anything else "new" coming out. New tech sure, but at what cost? often getting the latest and greatest isn't the smartest move.

Old tech is also a bit of a stretch. What more do new Alpha cameras offer that this doesn't? Strap it to a solid lens and this is just as capable as any "new camera" out there. If you want 10bit and "higher end specs", that also comes with higher end prices that a lot of people, including myself as aren't looking to pay.

I almost went with the A7iii but went with this one as the built in gyro data will come in handy for the video work I also got this for.

I've been using it with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens and my photos look no different from those coming out of my cousin's Alpha a7IV. These aren't computer graphics cards, "new tech" rarely makes much of a real world difference.

Wow! This is a fantastic price. I felt lucky to get it from B&H a month ago for $1518 ($100 more).
I'm still getting used to it. It's a bit more complicated than my a6000 (which broke and this replaced). But I like that it is similar in some ways to the APSC line (smaller body, eyepiece closer to the corner).
I'm OK with the $100 more I paid, though. I got a lot of use with it over the last month (during a break from school).

Do you think bh can match the edu price tomorrow?
They almost surely will. But you have to wait until Wednesday for their offices to open.
The PM'd a lens discount for me that BuyDig had for cheaper (with BuyDig's EDU discount).

Is this better for video?
At this price point if you want video spend an extra $350 for the FX30 that just came out and has tons more features and better quality. The A7C is just a repackaged A7iii which is like 5 years old.

Depends. If you're shooting video the A7iv is so far beyond the capabilities of the A7iii it's not funny. Just 10bit 422 is enough reason to go with the A7iv

Oh cmon that's a major exaggeration. I bet if I showed 2 videos side by side, 95% of the population would not tell the difference.

But getting back to the discussion, we are talking about iii vs 7c, not iv.

Damn. Was hoping they had the Tamron 17-28 on there as well but it looks like only a very limited amount of lenses are included in the sale

Well, cmon, if you just want a video camera then get a dedicated video camera.

If you are looking at this camera you want video and still capabilities. Kinda silly to suggest an aps-c camera for more money than this full frame camera. I was just replying to iii vs 7c, which is pretty even in stills, but 7c has newer features for video than iii.

Do teachers or school staff qualify for Edu discount (I'm assuming this is a student discount)?

Better AF system than the A7iii.

Love that lens, handles my a7riii sensor like a champ. One of the best values out there.

Since α7 IV came to the market with unlimited 4k, who is still interested in the other similar Sony model?

Hopefully the A7C II is coming soon. The A7C was a good idea, but was gimped in too many ways.
