I owned an a7c for a year now and i have also used an a7iv. a7iv is definitely the better camera but now you have to factor in the cost as a7iv is $1000 dollars more expensive. Depending on your budget you might want to invest that in a good f1.4 lens if you want low light shots etc. If you have the money great. But if you need a camera right now, an a7c with a good 1.4 lens will be better (for low light) than if you exhausted your budget and stuck with a a7iv f2.8 lens or slower. The other things to consider is definitely if you need dual card slots (a7c is single slot) and whether you need more buttons. A7c is also way more compact in size than a7iv. The color science and menu system is also better than a7c.

That raises the same questions as with anything else "new" coming out. New tech sure, but at what cost? often getting the latest and greatest isn't the smartest move.

Old tech is also a bit of a stretch. What more do new Alpha cameras offer that this doesn't? Strap it to a solid lens and this is just as capable as any "new camera" out there. If you want 10bit and "higher end specs", that also comes with higher end prices that a lot of people, including myself as aren't looking to pay.

I almost went with the A7iii but went with this one as the built in gyro data will come in handy for the video work I also got this for.

I've been using it with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens and my photos look no different from those coming out of my cousin's Alpha a7IV. These aren't computer graphics cards, "new tech" rarely makes much of a real world difference.

I bought this at full price last year and I love the smaller form factor. I think it's a good camera to grow if you're learning.

Why they didn't put the 61mpix sensor in this makes no sense. Planned obsolescence at its finest

61 MP is not optimal for video. The A7C is intended to be a take-anywhere hybrid aimed, primarily, at those looking to vlog; ergo, a 61mp sensor would be a detriment.

Who are you to tell engineers what's best, you'll be changing your excuses up once they release a higher MP successor

Comparison of A7c vs a7s iii and a7 iv.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raF3jJ5kO5c

Looks like if you want best low light performance, a7 iv almost match a7s iii for low night video (except the extreme case like no light dark cave). Which both a7 iv and a7s iii is much better than a7c for low light.

What camera you need depend on how you use your camera for like how often you use in low light situation, etc.

Do teachers or school staff qualify for Edu discount (I'm assuming this is a student discount)?
Yes, Adorama uses SheerID.com for verification and looking at their site, teachers qualify.

Update: actually, SheerID will verify you're a teacher for discounts at many sites, but Adorama may be only for students so not 100% sure.
