Also, the base line macbook Pro comes with 8GB memory.. WTH.. It's a PRO .. 8GB memory is a slap in the face. And then they want 200 more for 8GB additional memory.
Apple has moved away from usage based tiering to yield management tiering in each line. So, you will find entry-level items in each line for people who prefer that line for whatever reason (legit or not) but don't want to pay high prices.
So now you can find Air models more competent than some Pro models, etc. All entry models are now basically lifestyle products now than utility products.
Ain't marketing wonderful?

But with that said, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this deal for the following reasons:
- New laptop = new battery
- A used battery's remaining life is HIGHLY dependent on how it was used, heat it was subjected to, and how many times it was recharged. Again, the app CoconutBattery can help expose this information to ensure you're getting a laptop with usable battery performance. Batteries can be replaced at a cost, and quality of third party batteries can be questionable.
- New laptop ensures you will get many years of support and updates from Apple
- My mid-2012 Macbook Air is no longer supported with the latest macOS, so I'm a version behind. It's impossible to know Apple's plans, but a 2015 Macbook Air may receive updates for another 2-4 years?
- M1 Macbook Air is highly efficient compared to the 2015 Intel chip
- The Intel versions of the Macbook Air can run hot and loud due to fans spinning depending on what is being done on the system (also true for Apple's M-chips, but much less likely to happen with typical light usage). Not only have Apple's M-chips greatly boosted efficiency, but also greatly boosted performance over the older Intel chips. Altogether, this means the laptop will last longer running on battery while running cooler and with minimal fan noise.
- M1's 8GB memory (RAM) vs older 4GB memory on the 2015 Intel
- Other users have already spoken about it in this thread, so I won't say much. In short, I'd personally consider 8GB a minimum these days for comfortable daily usage.
- M1's graphics performance vs 2015 Intel
- I won't say much on this either, but M1's graphics outperform Intel. This generally translates to games running faster with higher quality, system animations running smoothly, and high quality videos (i.e. high resolution 4K) running smoothly.
- Lastly, the M1 Macbook Air comes with 256GB drive vs the 128GB on the 2015 Intel
- Aside from faster transfer speeds, you'd double the storage space for pictures, videos, applications, and anything else.
One important topic to bring up, the M1 Macbook Air does NOT have USB-A ports or SD card slot. Instead, it has 2 USB-C ports (one of which will typically be used for charging the laptop) and a headphone port. USB-A are the large rectangular USB ports we've used for decades whereas the USB-C is the newer, smaller oval ports used on newer iPads, Android phones (the iPhone currently uses "Lightning" connector), and other modern devices. To connect a USB-A device or SD card will require the use of an adapter or dongle.Disclaimer: The above are *my* reasons. It's not a definitive buy/pass decision that is applicable to all as each person may have a different definition of "light usage" and will have different budgets. Based on the superbly positive experience I've had with my mid-2012 Macbook Air, I wouldn't hesitate to make an investment in a new M1 Macbook Air that I'm sure will give me many years of use.

As someone else pointed out I don't think the $400 for a 7 year old laptop is a good deal.
Either spend more money on this newer MacBook air OR go for a cheap windows laptop.

As for your earlier comment, xcode in itself is a beast of a program. It's not like other IDE's where it's a lightweight program used for coding. The integration it has with everything else and the included packages make the program HUGE and resource intensive.
