I don't think I got this offer. I've been tapping all month due to 5% with apple pay.

I don't think this offer is the same as tap with Apple Pay. Looks like you need your discover card to tap and pay. I didn't see any email offer myself but Apple Pay definitely don't count as this "contactless tap"

MYSTERY SOLVED:
so I was looking at my Sept statement and noticed there was actually $10 credited to the Cash Back Balance. not to the account balance (balance due amount) but as a credit to the Discover Cash Back Balance the one where you see your 5% balance for redemptions:

on my statement it showed:

Everywhere Else x.xx
5% Cashback Bonus xxx.xx
Promotional +$10.00

So those who signed up in August, double check your Sept/Oct statement for that $10 as a Cash Back Bonus not as a $10 credit to your balanced owed....
