Wasn't this game always free? It was one of the biggest online shooters in the mid 2000s. Great game.

This game was always free to play, and I put sooo many hours into it.

There were a lot of mods and other quality of life addons that were pretty common on servers. The original maps were already terrific and there were some great custom maps too. XP with a class unlocked buffs that carried over as you switched classes for the course of a campaign (like 2-3 maps in sequence). It was a good system.

Near the end I played mostly with Limited Lives on et.tjw.org (how do I remember this??) because most remaining servers had super short respawn delays and it was becoming COD-like.

Great deal, thanks for sharing!

This was my favorite free-to-play, multiplayer first-person-shooter (FPS) for quite a while. I was a member of the LZ clan, which played this, back in the day.

If I recall correctly, you play as the Allies or the Nazis and it's bit more than just a team-shooter, there are team objectives, like building/destroying an objective or robbing a bank.
I played on the [BYE] clan. So much time spent practicing, strategizing, etc. What a great game though.

I started the Lock-n-Load clan back in the day and ran the server, it was the first Linux server I managed. I loved this game and managing the server was definitely the reason I got into tech.

You can actually download the game for free from the original maker SlashDamage: https://www.splashdamage.com/game...-territory

There's also a fully compatible open source fork that fixes some of the vulnerabilities in the client: https://github.com/etlegacy/etlegacy

id Software is also now running official servers Smilie: https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/...ver-update

I was a member of a DoD (Day of Defeat, the Half Life mod) clan for a while... Team Wolfpack.

IIRC, they also started playing this game right as I started phasing out of Team Wolfpack as I started grad school.

I loved RTCW back in the early 2000s and completely missed out on ET the multiplayer. Surprised to hear there's life here. Maybe it's not too late to try after all

I think ET has a case for being The First free to play game. If my memory is correct, Activision kinda dumped it out there after a tough development and a lot of cut features. I played the shit out of it when it was new. But then the spiritual successor Quake Wars didn't catch on with the audience.

Imo, it not only holds up but is better than team fortress 2. the closest modern thing to it would be overwatch, in the way that things are done in objectives for a stage, then moves on to the next stage objective, etc. until the map is done. but unlike overwatch, the maps are much bigger with up to 16 vs. 16 people. it is also not quite as chaotic as overwatch with the jumpy flying characters. and all the weapons are standard type world war 2 gear. only 5 or 6 playable characters medic, soldier, engineer, etc.

still my favorite fps game of all time. played so much back in the day. really wish they would remake it like they did team fortress 2.
Yeah, I could never really get into TF2, I always wished I was playing WolfET when we were doing TF2 at LAN parties Grin
I actually configured my old netbook to be a dedicated server for those LAN parties, you couldn't get all the features of Jaymod unless it was running on a dedicated server.

It's always been free, but wasn't on GoG, I suppose.

Kind of strange. With a much faster computer, I thought my fps should be fast but it is extremely slow. Oh well.
You might need to mess with the cfg file and make sure VSync is disabled.

The Quake engine has a lot of tweaks that could be made to get better performance and slightly better rendering quality.
