This is a great deal. Very cool to see some R/C stuff posted here on sd.

I've not flown this model, but it should be dead nuts simple to fly. High wing, huge landing gear, and SAFE takes care of everything for you in-flight. As close to hands off you'll get in an R/C plane. It comes with a simple 7-channel Spektrum transmitter which is more than adequate. Spektrum is quality, Horizon makes good planes. This is a solid deal.

Yes, in the beginner mode, it is easy to takeoff, fly and land (even in light breeze) after one has practiced these well on the RC simulator. However, it is recommended to maiden with a knowledgeable person and learn at an RC club. YMMV

You already have your own battery, charger, and transmitter? I doubt that many people who are in the market for a beginner plane like this already have that stuff or would have any idea what to buy or how to put it together.

I would say start with a Night Vapor. I have 2 older models and fly them more than my other planes. Super forgiving and surprisingly durable not to mention just FUN to fly.

Can I usually just go out to an empty park to fly this? Wanna do this with my kid just for fun without having to join the RC club…

I would suggest new flyers start with the aeroscout. The plane is an excellent trainer and can take a punch.

It's easier to have a plane with only 3 controls; up/down, left/right and throttle. This uses a 4th of yaw, which is sort of a side to side motion.

I think simple "flying wings" or planes with dihedral (not horizontal wings, but bend upwards) are easier because they have one less axis and control to worry about.

I was told in the past that this one should be the first buy for learners: Sport Cub S 2 RTF with SAFE
https://www.horizonhobby.com/prod...44000.html

RTF: Ready to Fly (no other parts to purchase)
SAFE: Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope (makes it easy to fly)

Vaguely remember this being closer to $100.

Congrats, I think you'll love it.
Yes - fly it on a calm day with zero wind. I mean zero. Early morning or later evening.
Find a nice, big open field to fly it with no people, cars, houses around.
Flying a plane is not like driving a car. That third axis is a pretty steep learning curve. With SAFE, though, this one is a great starter kit.
