Just bought one.

I was going to wait for AMD and their 7000 series, but honestly I'm not going to get a better card than this.

Nvidia has additional support and features outside of gaming, like CUDA and video encoding that are stellar.

Will now need to get a bigger PSU to go with.

Remember when people were saying back in May that there was no way GPU prices would continue to fall, and that you needed to buy one immediately, before they went out of stock again?
Remember when people were saying that there would be a fire sale when the 4xxx dropped..?
There's stupid people on both sides... always Wink

I'm honestly not sure, people seem to really hate them for some reason... my last 2 GPUs were Zotac, because the prices were great, both were great cards for years and still sold well enough when i flipped them to upgrade.
I've never had to deal with their customer service though, that seems to be the main complaint I find online.

Not sure if it is stupid, because nobody really knows unless you got inside information. Everything else is rumor so anyone's guess is as good as anyone elses.

Remember when people said $1600...$1300...$1100...$900 3090s were a good deal? Remember when people were mouth watering at $1k 6900 XTs as well. Remember when people said the 4090 wouldn't be a massive performance gain? Well it never was, they hilariously did, and it definitely is, respectively.

It already is a fire sale. They're selling silicon far below production costs and prices are still, albeit slowly, falling. I war drummed hold the line 6 months ago and was right every time I did so. The calculus is a bit different now as the performance per dollar is approaching parity, combined with notable inflation, and prices are about where they should be...although depending on RDNA3 performance and cost, it could slide yet again as a free market doesn't care about costs or fairness, supply and demand run the game (barring government intervention). We already saw Nvidia back off the $900 3070 (uh, umm, I mean 3080 12GB lol).

Patience is key people. This is a mediocre price for a 3090 that's half the performance of a card less than twice it's price. There is a reason it's on woot. There is a reason it's still in stock. It's like a business screaming get em' before they're gone when they have a pile of (enter item) sitting in plain sight Facepalm

They tend to go cheap on the VRM components which makes the cards suck more power and run hotter.

The last card I bought in 2016, $239 for 1060 6G. It is quite good for me for 6 years. I will upgrade another GPU is it is under $250 and improves upon 1060. 2000 dollar computer system was the money I spent on a Pentium 5. It was claimed the price drop to halve every other year. It was not the case in past few years, but I can wait.

I just bought a 42 inch LG C2 off that green website that gets censored here and am still waiting on the launch of RDNA3... these cards don't give me the horsepower to run 4K/120hz so it's going to be 4090 or 7900xt, depending on which is in stock and whether I have to pay sales tax or not.

I don't have a Best Buy card... is it worth getting one? Will they close the 10% off loophole allowing cheaper 4090s? 10% off would cover sales tax and then some...

Waiting for black Friday pricing. Hopefully better than this. I'm debating is it even worth paying this price from a 3070.
The 3090 will absolutely drop to $700. Right now you can get the RX 6900XT for $670 and those have better non-ray-tracing gaming performance than a vanilla 3090 (but about 60% as good ray-traced performance) so if you don't care about ray-tracing the 6900XT is a much better deal in my opinion. The way things have been going I'd bet the 6900XT will hit $600 with a small possibility of dipping just a bit lower than that on short sales.

Thanks for the info. BTW how do I know if my Mobo is compatible with the RX 6900xt?

I was so happy when I had this preordered from Zotacs website for like $2300 dollars only to get cancelled lol. God saved me from wasting my money and keep rocking my 1080 ti. Now I feel this is finally a decent deal! I probably can only get $100 for my current card. Just gonna keep it and display it on the wall lol
Let's say you bought the 3090 at $2300 and sold your 1080 ti for $600 during the peak. 2300-600=$1700 out of pocket.

Now fast forward to now, $870 for 3090 minus say, $50 for the 1080 ti. 870-50=$820 out of pocket. That's a saving of $880.

On another topic, you waited for over 1+ year for this price. Will it hurt to wait and see what team Red will offer in 10 days? Others have also mentioned that inventory are still too high for the 30 series. Space is money, you don't think retailers will try to off load old inventory for new stuff come black friday firesale?

Graphics cards are universally compatible with traditional consumer-grade motherboards. Ancient mobos with PCI-E gen 2 and older lack the throughput to get the full performance of faster cards, but there's nothing stopping you from using a 6900XT with even a first or second gen i7 platform. You'd just have to make sure there's room in your case for the card (they can be quite large).

it's the absolute certainty that people have that makes it stupid...
obviously nobody knows, it's been an incredibly volatile market.

Thanks for the info! For some reason I thought I had to buy a AMD chipped Mobo in order to operate AMD GPU. That's great!
