I like using these remotely if I'm not home. I play talk radio or music in a distant room just in case there is somebody out there wanting to "check" in a window. Had a moment where people approach and I ask what they need. It's always some random person they are looking for.

The dot is intended to be a nice sounding speaker like the echo. It's just not quite as loud or full bodied. It's by no means just an Alexa input and sounds pretty good. (We have a lot of both in the house)

As a long time user of both Google and Amazon products, I have to say that #1 no Echo has had as good sound as my old Gen 1. The Gen 1 had a 2.5" driver and a separate tweeter and far better sound than any of it's descendants, it still brings a good buck as a used piece, I love mine maybe because it was my first. The whole debacle is now that these folks have gotten market penetration, how to they monetize it and there lies the problem. $50 for a ball that tells you the weather, turns on electrical stuff, etc it a lot to pay for an invasion of privacy that tries to sell you stuff all the time. Seems to me that's kind of a lopsided transaction, perhaps if they gave you more stuff or better integrated Alexa into the Prime benefits, but I'll wait until these hit the $20-25 mark before I'd consider one and that's more curiosity than want or need.

i purchased 2 of these at $90 last year at kohls. there was a slickdeals thread on the. they are pretty loud and nice item for a bedroom or room... now super loud for the out doors or large livingroom.
