Coming from a pianist who owns this library and has actually had the liberty of playing a gorgeous and wonderfully rebuilt Chickering grand recently, I find your comments quite inane and pessimistic.
Also coming from a person who personally recorded said Chickering (with good gear and in a nice acoustic space), when comparing my recordings to what this piano library can do, it's clear that it can create realistic and convincing studio recordings (and more if you use convolution reverb) of an actual Chickering grand. This is the case with many sample-based piano virtual instruments. So yes, you may not be pressing down on real ivories with this library as you would with the real thing, but you are indeed playing the sound of a real Chickering grand.
The audience for piano VST's are not just musicians in the industry as most customers are, in fact, not in the industry. Lastly, unless you own a $20 Casio keyboard it will most likely have a USB port, i.e. the "compatibility" bar is very low...
TLDR: If you're going to speak, know what you're saying first.

Indeed, this is made for music producers who may want to capture the sounds of a "1903 Chikering grand piano" or other various sounds included in this software. Most producers don't have access to the actual instrument and/or the resources necessary to record such instruments -- perhaps due to budget, time, or lack of proper equipment such as high-end microphones and access to an acoustically treated recording space that would allow for a decent recording. For the majority of music producers (hobbyists), this is the next best thing - a simulation of that recording environment.
I thought this also but but realized that once you have the code, it's redeemable via Native Instruments portal. Good Post thanks!
