Planned obsolescence - especially in the current era of climate change - should be criminalized.

My first gen Home Hub (before Nest) worked fine for years until an update all but killed it.

*Edit* Not sure why anyone would downvote this. Apple and Samsung were both convicted of planned obsolescence back in 2018 by Italy and fined millions (understood this is a fractional impact on those companies). This month alone Google bricked thousands of Pixel phones up through the 4 with its latest security update (insert conspiracy theory here). We trash 50 million tons of electronic waste every year. On top of that, it's YOUR stuff that stops working. There's no reason for certain devices - like flip phones and home hubs - to stop working due to forced software updates. If it doesn't anger you, maybe it should.

By the way, I love my Home Hub despite the above. It's like having a virtual assistant 24 hours that knows everything.

Google must be preparing for a new gen of their smart home stuff, or they're phasing it out. The entire product line appears to be on sale

It's not a secret. They showed off the new Google nest hub during the pixel event.

Have the Nest Hub Max which worked fine for a couple of years. The recent updates however have not been good. Screen brightness dims constantly to unviewable levels requiring adjustment at least daily. Hand gesture to stop/start is not recognized with consistency. Device has to be rebooted more frequently due to lagging performance.

On the bright side, the Nest Hubs are supported by Matter. Matter is the new industry standard for all smart home. Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, etc are all onboard

I think that was the Pixel tablet that can be docked to a speaker base and behaves like a nest hub while it's docked, but it's a G2 Tensor based android tablet.

That's true, but I think it's the successor to the nest hub.

I don't think it will replace the hub, they will be two completely different price points. Not to mention size. Maybe it will replace the max.

I heavily relying on group casting and it is very buggy after fuchsia update.
Google announced new tablet double as nest hub:

I recommend avoid current generation if you want this one instead.

Absolutely correct. Google is going to replace these old slow things. We've already seen the larger tablet model. Lenovo has had smaller tablet assistants for years. These models can't even run the UI smoothly. They're so slow that the assistant responses are sometimes garbled and slow.
