Anyone have experience with this TV? I missed out on a recent 65" tv deal for $250 (HiSense, I think), and am looking for a decent TV for <$500. This seems like a good deal since it's LG and not their lowest end models.

Costco had another LG 65" on sale for like $480 or something. I would buy through them for the customer service/warranty/return policy, but that thing only had 2 HDMI ports and is a lower end tv.

Friend bought prior year equivalent. Would not buy a non-OLED LG. LG name makes you think you're getting a step up from other budget tv options but it's really a step behind them. It's ok for bright scenes but terrible with dark scenes. Also feels cheap.

For under $500, excellent buy!
About $200-1000 more to get something better

CR's Take LG 65UN9000AUJ

Owner satisfaction 5 out of 5

This 65-inch LCD (LED) 4K UHD TV from LG is internet enabled, and uses LG's "WebOS" operating system. It includes built-in LG ThinQ, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa virtual assistants. For external digital assistants, LG claims this model will work with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri HomeKit. CR's tests found it had a wide viewing angle, but its picture quality was generally below average, and the HDR performance was very limited.

Detailed Test Results

HD PICTURE QUALITY HD picture quality fell short, overall. Among its plusses, the reproduction of fine HD image detail was Excellent. Color accuracy was Very Good, with flesh tones in particular, looking natural. Contrast—the difference between the darkest blacks and brightest whites—was Good, so images had some depth, but it was not the best. Image brightness was Very Good (with the backlight control turned up), so the picture was well suited for a brighter room—a lower setting is recommended for a dimmer viewing environment. Its reproduction of smooth edges on image content was generally Excellent and free of "jaggies" (jagged edges), whether for "up-converted" HD-to-UHD images, deinterlacing of 1080i video, or film-mode detection of 1080i film-based content. On the minus side, black levels were overly bright, unfortunately, worse than many TVs. There was slight display non-uniformity in our test sample—it appeared as brighter cloudy areas which were most noticeable on very dark scenes (or in the black bars of a letterboxed movie)—the severity can vary from model to model.

4K UHD PICTURE QUALITY Overall 4K UHD picture quality was decent, overall. In our UHD testing, we played native-4K movies and test videos (non HDR) thru the TV's HDMI input, and found their image detail was all there. For color, contrast and black level, the TV performed similarly to its HD picture quality.

HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) PERFORMANCE HDR performance had very limited effectiveness In our tests, the display's lack of high peak brightness capability (by HDR standards) limited its ability to show the benefits of our HDR 4K content. It could not reveal much contrast between the moderately bright and very bright highlights, while the brightness levels in the mid-to-lower tones, like those in an indoor scene, were preserved. It did a good job reproducing a greater range of nuanced shadow detail, from black to white, with no obvious banding within the gradually shaded areas, but we noted some loss of detail within the highlights of the brightest areas. Brightly colored objects remained nicely saturated.

VIEWING ANGLE This LG model has a wide viewing angle overall, better than that of most TVs. It will provide fairly consistent picture quality, with fewer problems than most TVs, for typical viewing conditions—say, if your family is seated across a long sectional or in chairs off to the sides. Our examination at various viewing angles indicated reasonably good consistency. In our tests, the picture did show moderate dimming from the sides. With dark scenes this model doesn't fare quite as well. When viewed from the sides, the depth of black levels varied depending on our vertical position. As we moved closer to the screen this limitation became even more apparent, especially if seated on the floor looking upward where black levels brightened significantly. When we viewed the TV from the sides the image had some loss of quality. We viewed the image from above and below center screen, and saw Excellent vertical viewing angle performance, with no significant changes in color, contrast, and black level.

MOTION BLUR In our motion tests, this LG TV had Very Good motion performance, with minimal blurring, thanks to LG's "TruMotion." This feature is designed to reduce motion blur, a shortcoming of most displays.

SOUND QUALITY We got Good sound quality, about average among the models we've tested. When watching a blockbuster movie, a concert, or TV show, it can deliver decent performance but just not like the better performers. In our listening evaluations, we found the bass (low frequencies) to be adequate but lacking a sense of fullness and some definition. Treble (high frequencies) was satisfactory. The overall sound was on the bright side and a bit closed in. This TV should be OK if the room isn't too noisy—we found the speakers could produce a Good volume level and without obvious distortion. Overall, though imperfect, most people would find this sound quality acceptable. Overall, though imperfect, most people would find this sound quality acceptable.

EASE OF USE Consider the TV's stand is 53 inches wide when choosing a table top to place it on. On first power up, an on-screen guide appeared—which you could choose to follow when setting up the TV. The remote controls the TV via an RF signal and doesn't need to be pointed at the TV. It's a motion-control point-and-click design that you wave around in order to navigate the menus. It has a full number keypad for entering channel numbers. It has a scroll wheel for quickly navigating through a menu. It includes all the buttons we typically expect: power, channel up/down, volume control, mute, source input, menu, and exit buttons. The remote has a microphone for accessing a built-in voice assistant feature. It also has dedicated buttons for streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

INTERNET FEATURES This TV provides internet functionality via its "WebOS" portal, with access to a library of applications from the LG Content Store, and a full web browser. Movie streaming services that can be downloaded to this TV, or are built-in, include Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney, Apple TV and HBO Max—and these can be streamed in HD or in 4K UHD. It includes built-in LG ThinQ, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa virtual assistants, which allow you to use natural speech to ask questions, launch applications, and search programming by talking to the remote. Claimed support for external voice assistants (not built in to the TV) include Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri HomeKit.

CONNECTIONS This model has four HDMI inputs (one supports eARC, enhanced audio return channel). It also has three USB ports, an optical digital audio out, an Ethernet port, WiFi wireless networking, DLNA—to access files within your home network, and AirPlay—for sharing videos, photos, music, and more from Apple devices to the TV.

WHAT'S INCLUDED You get with this TV: a printed user manual, a quick start guide, an electronic user guide via the TV's menu, a remote control with batteries, and a detachable power cord.

ABOUT UHD TESTING Ultra-high definition "UHD" can refer to both the TV and program content. While the UHD industry standard includes 4K and 8K, most UHD TVs and UHD content at this time are 4K. A 4K UHD image is presented as 3840 x 2160 pixels—four times the pixel-count of HD. We test UHD TV picture quality using 4K UHD movies, videos, photos, and test patterns to confirm these displays deliver performance to this format's full potential. We examine the TV's ability to reproduce 4K UHD image detail, as well as high dynamic range (HDR)—for TVs that support this capability. Image quality is tested using a UHD movie player connected to the TV's HDMI input, and from files stored on USB flash drive. We also check how well the TV can upscale HD movies to the display's higher UHD resolution while keeping artifacts such as "jaggies" along the edges of image content to a minimum. The best UHD TVs, and HDTVs, present high fidelity images that reveal the full quality of the best source content without degradation.

Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger on this.

A very reliable brand, very good motion blur performance, wide viewing angle, Native 120hz Refresh Rate, and 4 HDMI ports were important features for me. Don't want to pay for OLED so this seems like a good option. Consumer Reports reliability of Hisense, TCL, Vizio Toshiba, was 3/5, not good enough for me so that narrowed down the options.

Same TV was at Costco for $599 but is out of stock. https://www.costco.com/lg-65%22-c...61677.html

I just bought this TV on sale last week for $699 and found it even cheaper today for $499 . I got BB to price match it and bought another one. The image looks amazing. Ignore the review- this had 4.7 stars with over 20,700 reviews just last week. I'm not sure why it was reset to two reviews with one being negative about a broken screen. Great deal on a 120 Hz

Most reviewers are pretty tough on IPS displays because of contrast but I much prefer them over BUDGET VA panels.

Would this make a good garage TV? I'm not really looking for top of the line, just something I can watch while I'm grilling, etc. Any other recommendations for a large budget tv?

I don't think his comment is useless. It is true that Samsung and LG are deducing and discontinuing LCD panel production. They use other companies panel (but probably higher quality) for mid to low end TVs. It will make Samsung/LG LCD TVs are not very different from other brands except software and services.

I still rather stick with them, though, because of services, if price is reasonable.

Can anyone confirm this has HDMI 2.1? The Best Buy page says no...but the Costco link posted above says it does.

The rear panel pic on the BB item page shows HDMI ports 3 & 4 supporting 4k@120Hz. Also confirmed in the attached from displayspecifications. https://www.displayspecifications...l/cbfd2829
