Unfortunately there's no way I can buy and bring to tailgates as all of our rivals are this hideous color of Orange, but thought I could help out some Volunteers, Gators, Tigers.

EDIT: This does look like a refreshed version of the model I bought so maybe it is built a bit tougher.

So would it be possible to grill without putting water in the tray? My intended purpose is tailgating, and I'd probably just want to plan on letting it cool a while before the game to allow the fat to solidify, tossing it into the car and then cleaning the tray at home. Is that reasonable to think I could do it that way?
