I use the NVMe for OS (1600mb) speed, and 2 TB SSD (500mb) speed. 2TB SSD is around 100 dollars.
But I guess you can use mech hard drives if you want, I used to do that, but the super slow speeds (90mb-120mb) were hard for me to do, after NVMe with SSD.

Now with a user built PC builder who uses grade A parts, you could add stuff with good quality power supply. I learned my lesson.
p.s. I should add that many business class pre-builts, do use better quality parts and are made to last for years. Acer refurbs are great, but they are not business class PC's, they are consumer grade pc's made with lower quality parts to cut corners. They are still good PC's, just people need to baby them more, and not tax them with adding stuff that stresses the PC parts. I love these Acer Refurbs , so I keep it simple. Add RAM, SSD card ... and done! I know I'm being super conservative about this, ... but after losing lots of pre-builts in past because I love experimenting, I saw when I added stuff "it works" ... but a year or 2 later PC blows and dies!
My first refurbished of the same model from a couple months ago was basically perfect and I haven't had a single issue. I'm wondering if the price drop now isn't them sending out returns from the initial batches.
Hopefully I won't have any issues getting my money back, but that's what charge-backs are for! I'm not going to spin the wheel for another one. I hope everyone else has a better experience.
Ps...what I basically read is that if you do a clean install of Win10 on an acer with the intel ray nvme controller, you have to reinstall the controller or you have issues.
Anyway...one reason I got this was the much more modern cpu. I'm still running an 8-9 yr old i3-6100. Well, I did a couple benchmark tests on the cpu in this acer last night and it was nowhere near the 8000-ish benchmark numbers I've seen it's capable of. I assume it may be the low cost MB in this holding it back. Thoughts???
