The fact that it has a Gen 4 interface really doesn't contribute to anything other than possibly not being rejected by PS5.
Better than most of the crap budget ones from Team, etc.
Pretty decent review

PCIe 4 drives run hotter when the memory is clocked and controllers have powerful enough hardware to push to PCIe 4 speeds. The interface controller is not what is creating the heat. If the NAND and controller is running at PCIe 3 speeds, then it isn't creating any more heat than PCIe drives. Better to understand why the heat is created before making such bad correlation assertions.
People have already given reason why the interface is needed for PS5 use. The interface is enforced, speeds are not.
It has a minimum hardware requirement because there are a lot of crappy Gen 3 SSDs (with high latencies and inconsisten throughput, etc) which some people are going to pop in, have missing frames or stuttering and are going to bad mouth the PS5 or worse for them try to get technical support or return the PS5.
Making a minimum of Gen 4 avoids most of that crap.

I'd recommend just getting a PCIe 3.0 drive. PCIe 4.0 generally runs hotter than PCIe 3.0 so if you're getting the same speeds out of both... just get the 3.0 imo
EDIT: Removed the part about getting a PCIe 3.0 drive for PS5 due to compatibility issues
I'd recommend just getting a PCIe 3.0 drive over this even for the PS5. PCIe 4.0 generally runs hotter than PCIe 3.0 so if you're getting the same speeds out of both... just get the 3.0 imo
The only advantage a faster drive would get you right now would be for transferring files since downloads would be limited by Internet speed for most people and load times aren't affected too much by R/W speed according to a test done by The Verge [theverge.com]. And according to an older reddit thread [reddit.com], load time bottlenecks these days are typically due to CPU and/or GPU.
