Be sure to check your local utility. They often offer rebates or discounts on smart thermostats.

Discounts if you wish to give your utility company control of it. No thanks. Don't need them to regulate the temp in my home.

Not always, sometimes it's just rebates.

What control? You have full control with it. Utility company either provide rebates or sell them on their own marketplace. By no means they will/can control your thermostats.

Many utilities can do this ...dont know if any are adding the functionality by default and you consent with purchase

They can't do that. With Ecobee, it's part of Eco+ that you have to actually sign into your utility. I just never did and it works fine.

No you don't. By getting a free thermostat from your energy provider, you agree to sign up for their energy saver program. That's why you are better off buying them from a retailer.

My electric provider is offering a $10/mo discount to allow them to turn my Ecobee up 3 degrees for 2 hours during peak usage times. You can just turn it bad to run your program if you are home and you notice. I haven't signed up yet.

I have an older one of these and Alexa is trash on it. I'll say Alexa and it will immediately bark back that Alexa is down and try again. Or it won't hear me at all. All of my stand alone Alexa and Google home devices work much better

you the same guy that was crying about this in the other thread too..?

some providers make you join a program, like ORU here in NY. i am free to override if I wish, the temp will never change more than 4° for a set amount of time, its only during peak hours, and has a maximum percentage of adjusted time during the cooling season... per the program documentation.

some providers just give you an instant rebate, once every few years for a set number of devices, like friends I have with in NJ with PSEG where I bought all my Ecobee's. they don't even care if you connect them, just buy with my friends shipping address and they bring over when they arrive.

you're just salty because you didn't read the documentation and had your temps shifted out of your comfort area.

of course they can control your thermostat... that's what's "Smart" about it Wink

here's my companies info, since you appear to be woefully unaware...

By joining Smart Savers, you can help reduce energy use on the occasional extra-hot day. There is no effort required during these events and O&R will automatically adjust your thermostat temperature by no more than four degrees to help lower energy demand during peak hours.

this one has no remote sensor, right? I see one of the ones with voice control for not much more. Anybody know what's new in the 2022 version?
