This is a beast of almost 50 pounds with a pretty narrow gear range. It lacks proper gearing for doing real uphills. If you plan to use it for mountain biking, this isn't a good option at all. It's fine for dirt, sand, snow, and just putting around town. Pretty poor option for commuting though as it's very heavy and has high rolling resistance.

I almost bought this bike last week at the same price, but then I read the reviews. Sounds like it'll likely put you in the hospital. Don't need that!

I see these periodically, people near me, going through snow and mud, supposedly they are also good on sand. I am tempted to get one to be able to go through these also.

If you're handy, you can change the gearing, brakes, and bottom bracket and it's decent. I got one a few years ago and it works fine for the price

Stick with the gt. They are decent bikes. A bike shop will turn it up and replace what's needed or watch some videos to diy it. Greasing various parts, tuning the gearing, new brake pads, new grips will make your bike feel new again.
