What's the business model here? No one is giving away free money.
Sure they are.
But as you go on to note, they're paying for it on the backs of the customers too dumb to use them that way.
Just don't be one of those dumb customers and you can, indeed, get "free" money with a tiny bit of legwork (the 5 transactions a month in this case for example).

There's no deal here unless you absolutely have the financial self-discipline to pay it off every month.
See again- literally every credit card on the market where that's true.

Get the US Bank Altitude Go card for dining: 4% back. Get the Costco Visa for fuel: 4% back travel: 3%, secondary rental car coverage, and double warranties. Get the Chase Freedom card for 5% on quarterly categories: 5% back on groceries right now. Or Amex Blue: No annual fee for the first year and a whopping 6% back on groceries. Get the Fidelity Visa for everything else: 2%. And churn the hell out of those sign-up bonuses. There are much better ways than this card. Wells Fargo: Blech.
0 of those cards give me any rewards while letting me pay rent for free--- so they're all objectively worse for that purpose.
There's certainly better cards than this one for virtually any other purpose... but not that one.
Disabled BiltProtect Debit since I wanted to make sure I had enough in my checking for other auto payments and it declined my auto rent payment this morning due to suspicious activity even though Rent payment entry shows under Payment history and the payment didn't actually go through. Calling customer service is a hassle and making manual repayment, I can't confirm it even went through yet since no charges showed up in Well's Fargo transaction history.

thank you for dissecting how idiotic his entire post was, I was too lazy to
went ahead and cashed out in Amazon gift card, anyone have an idea if any better conversion rate deals are ever offered and how often? some have said best deals on travel but wouldn't be as straight forward as this if having to book something on the spot
i literally was about to make an amazon purchase yesterday until i read about bilt rent day and so i waited until today to clean out my points (the only valid use for points for me is amazon).

bummer, my landlord will waive any fees if you use autopay and it doesn't trigger but i have a fidelity check already written out and ready to go in case bilt decides to flake out on me and decline a rent payment. this is going to be a painful experience if i have to watch out every month worried the payment go thru or not.

FWIW, I've never had an issue when BiltProtect Debit was turned on and it would directly debit from my checking for the past 5 months. I turned it back on for next month and will probably make sure I have enough in my checking for all auto payments going forward.

and thought i didn't need biltprotect because i don't ever use my mc and don't care about the credit line availability. but as you say, if it prevents the rent check from being blocked then i'm all for it. i really don't need an extra 30 days on the float.

well, that didn't work...my amazon merchandise purchase was declined using a bunch of points and about $50 charged to the bilt card. already the points have been returned; seems like they wont let me use amazon on bonus rent day. next step is to try to buy an amazon gc using points only.

Transferring the points to an airline- or to Hyatt for hotels- then booking an award ticket or award room with the airline or hotel will offer significantly more than 1 cent a point.
You wouldn't transfer until you were ready to book something.

what is "significantly more", is there standard conversion that doesn't need a special "Rent Day" or promo period
what is "significantly more", is there standard conversion that doesn't need a special "Rent Day" or promo period
The value you get out of it depends on which hotel or airline you transfer to--- and what kind of airline ticket you or hotel room you get with it.
Hyatt hotels you can pretty commonly get 2-2.5 cents per point for example for hotel rooms.
Airlines is a lot more variable.... with coach seats 1.5-2 cents isn't uncommon.... for business or first class 4-6 cents is common and sometimes you can do even better.
There's no special "promo" needed- though value can vary throughout the year... (some airlines charge different points during peak season vs off peak for example)...and some airlines are better than others depending where you are going.
Generally just google "best use of points for XXXX" where XXXX is "london" or "australia" or "to europe" or wherever you're trying to go and you'll find all the popular travel blogs telling you what are the best options.

the site states the points can also be used for next month's rent. what is the conversion there?

143 points = $1
Today it's:
95 points = $1
I just loaded up with like $400 in Amazon GC's for the rest of the year, pretty sweet, this card gets better and better with promos each month.
DO NOT use the points towards next months rent, it's not worth it at all, the conversion is worse than the normal Amazon spend.
For points towards your rent it's:
181 pts = $1
