Generally, coffee drinkers need coffee makers, espresso drinkers need espresso makers.

This is great price if you are looking to get Jura.
I got it from Costco at $1300 few months ago.
Good machine but did not work for me.
First, the color. Did not do well with my wife.
It is narrow but long. Sticking out from under upper cabinets.
But I did like the clean design.
Constant cleaning is automatic.using a lot of water for small tank. For some it is good but I did not like it. Especially when coming back for more coffee between meetings right on time for rince and shutdown process.
The most annoying was using occasional ground coffee. Many times machine forgets about it and starts grinding from the hopper instead of using preground decaf.
Had some piles of ground coffee in the tray too.

Fully automatic? Integrated grinder? Integrated one button push cappuccino and other drink maker?

Sigh another espresso machine deal passes me by. My old DeLonghi Magnifica just refuses to die
I just picked up a Magnifica from Amazon warehouse for $350. It came brand new. The wife was so happy we didn't fight for a whole day!

And what's "worse" is they're fairly easy to repair…

Been considering pulling the trigger on the Breville Barrista Touch soon for the frequent $899 sale price that has been popping up. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the two? I wouldn't be opposed to spending a bit more if the Jura is a better machine, especially considering Costco's friendly return policy. I've read a couple of reviews but both machines seem fairly similar so I'd love some thoughts.

The only negative of the Jura is that it's only available in white...

I know, I am just wondering if this machine is worth it for me as someone who only drinks coffee and not espresso.
I used to make pour over coffee everyday. The process started getting annoying and some days, I'd be very hesitant to go through it. I got a super automatic from another brand and it's been fantastic. I switched from drinking coffee to drinking americano's instead along with a cappuccino. The super auto does make coffee but I find it makes americanos better. Also made me drink a lot more coffee than before.

Currently have the Jura Giga and cool control and it is massive overkill. I only use maybe 2 or 3 of the 30 drink options. I am thinking about grabbing this instead and selling my giga. Would take up much less counter space. But has a tiny water pitcher.

No mine is manual, I need to grind the coffee and steam the milk manually.
But my question is just around around the espresso. Is the espresso from this machine far superior in taste than cheap machines like DeLonghi or Gaggia Classic pro ?
short answer is no.
i actually happen to have the DeLonghi, Breville 870, QM Vetrano 2B Evo (my end game machine). and since i travel all the time, i am no stranger to super automatic machines like Jura and many others.

none of the super automatic does the proper espresso in the traditional means. what i meant by this is that i don't know any super automatic machine does 9 ~ 10 bar pressure. they do okay when milk is added, and you cannot beat the convenience.

but if you actually drink raw espresso and want to taste the sweetness of a perfect pull... you pretty much needs a full manual machine. different beans, age of beans all greatly affect the grind size and shot timing, off a bit you will end up too bitter or too sour. there is no way a full auto can do it for you.

and forget about latte arts.

This one is on my to-buy list. I have heard so many praises from my friends and colleagues, but before we made this upgrade we need to figure our the water situation by installing RO filter.

Philips 4300 is the best of both worlds.

But there's also an "Americano" which might be ok for a coffee drinker.

I would not spend $1000+ for an espresso machine if I only drank coffee and not espresso. I have a Technovorm for coffee and a different machine for espresso - for me the two are not interchangeable. If you just want coffee -look for a machine that is SCAA approved. https://www.homegrounds.co/scaa-c...ee-makers/

Yup, that's the way it checks out. Or 12 cups a day for 10 years etc. Early on we we roasting our own and drank a ton of coffee. Less so these days.

True. Americano could probably suffice for most coffee drinkers. It did originate to appease the American soldiers in Italy (during WWII) who liked espresso, but found it too strong. Espresso allows for many different drink types. If you don't want to just be stuck with a plain cup of coffee and want to try your hand with cappuccino, latte, macchiato, affogato, and many other varieties of coffee drinks, then espresso is the basis for just about everything.

That said, if you're new to espresso, you can probably make due with a much cheaper machine. I have a Breville Barista with a refurb Baratza Sette 270 grinder and can do just about everything. Some of these more fancy machines will do a lot or all of the work in making the drink vs. doing it all manually, but I personally get more out of learning the skills and honestly if I'm going to drop $1k+ on a machine I'd want something that's more restaurant/bar quality that lets me have total control over what I'm doing.
