I just realized something.

Because this one doesn't have the M1 chip, wouldn't this iPad be obsolete supposedly sooner than later?

I mean I don't want to get this iPad and then later Apple says this iPad is not supported with iPadOS ##.## version.

Plus, this is cheap for a reason…being for clearance/discontinuation maybe?
My 2017 iPad 5 from AAFES Veterans Day sale back then is still performing just fine. As a matter of fact, it supports the latest OS (iPadOS 16) just released this week.

So I wouldn't be overly concerned that the iPad 9 doesn't have the M1 chip, which is really intended for higher end models and needs. The A13 Bionic chip is plenty capable, and will be for a long time and under many more OS versions. Even the iPad 10 doesn't have the M1 chip.

Cheaper than the last $259.99/$269.99 deal from Microcenter and Amazon respectively.

If you can get this deal, I recommend setting up a reminder on your phone.

The iPhone 14 also doesn't have a M1 chip. Will that become obsolete soon also?

Exactly.
For reference, in 2021 my ipad Air gen1 (2013) started to get frustratingly slow for some of my frequently visited website and some apps were not getting updated due to the restrictions on my outdated (not getting updates to the ios) anymore.

So if it took me 9 years (I replaced my 2013 air with a discounted 11"pro (2021 model) this year) to get sick of the dated airGen1, I think you could survive at least 5 years or so? Just an opinion - i do keep vehicles around 15years. Maybe I hold onto things longer than most.

[sorry - responded to wrong person!]

My ipad mini 4 didn't get 16, but got a new 15 update this month I think. Somewhat sluggish, but ipad minis are for reading, so it's not a problem.

This is very cheap, like barely more than half the price of any other ipad once this one sells out, since the new ipad is way more expensive. I bought one from navy exchange for 270 a few weeks ago, and it seems pretty great. I don't play games except for chess.

5th gen iPads are iPadOS 16 compatible. I doubt this one will be obsolete any time soon

But iPadOS is different than iOS for iPhone? Apparently I'm not understanding something here.
Standard iPads are base on A series processor…. similar to iPhone. You might be thinking about pro/air series that use m1 chip. Major difference in class and cost.

This has a13 and the new model is a14. Again same as iPhone. I'm upgrading from ipad gen 6 with a10.

Oh please, cry me a river. How about the nurses that risked their lives AND their family's lives during early phases of COVID-19 doing their duty.

The rabbit hole goes deep. This is a good deal for Vets
I have lots of respect for both nurses and soldiers but nurses are compensated way better than enlisted soldiers (and enlisted nurses). Plus with extra shifts the can do quite well.

So the exchange and other military discounts are we'll deserve.

Well, you're right.

But the nurses could quit and drive home. Not so much if you're in Iraq or the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Its not exactly apples to apples, but exposure to danger - I think you're spot on.

Yes M1 was a generational leap and their already are features that M series gets that A series will not. It will only grow in the future.

Yea military personnel deserve every dime they can save for the commitment they do for this country. Sometimes it's not just about what they have done either it's also about the unknowns that haven't happened yet and being ready. You could also say the same about medical personnel and other professions Tough jobs and definitely underpaid regardless.

Within the context of their question, it already is: it doesn't run iPad OS at all!
