No cord, so it's shorter.

Was about to jump on this but this will be my first Milwaukee tool so I don't have any chargers.

$99 is still a good deal even with the battery but I need to charge it so its too bad.

I guess this deal only works if you already have an existing battery and charger.

It's not shorter when you factor the battery. BUT its portability for me was very useful, I used it to cut metal underneath my car and I didn't have to worry about cables and power.

You could buy the kit which includes the charger and 2 batteries for $129.

Is this the fuel version? Do they even make one?

I wonder if that is a good deal. I can probably wait BF for this.

Otherwise, at $99, I can also check the dremel.

Can anyone compare this to the M12 Fuel Die Grinder?

You made me curious, this is the best response I found over on garage journal:

I have both the M12 RA & straight die grinders. To me the straight die grinder is not an alternative to a rotary tool like a Dremel.

Rotary tools max out at 1/8" & there are tons of accessories (bits) for them. They're more for detailed work as you can grip the tool like a pencil close to the nose when needed.

The M12 straight die grinder you can't cause the power switch is a paddle/lever like air die grinders. So when holding the tool your hand is far away from the spindle & you lack control compared to a rotary tool. You could use 2 hands but that defeats the purpose.

A rotary tool you can turn it on, set the speed (for variable speeed models) & hold the tool anywhere. The die grinders you have to hold the paddle switch for it to stay on.

I use my M12 straight die grinder more for metal work, carbide burrs, grinding stones, cut off wheel. I have a cordless Dremel which the basically the same as the M12 rotary tool and it gets used for different purposes.

Better than any corded dremel ... Better than the 8220 cordless dremel as well. The downfall on the M12 rotary tool is the weight, balance, and the grip. The collet lock button is a bit easy to htouch and if you have it spinning with 20k rpm, and accidentally hit it... you'll know it. Lol.

The Bosch still takes first place for handheld imo, but you have to get them from outside North American market.

I haven't tried the newest cordless dremels, snd I won't. They went full on ridiculous making them use a new 12v battery, that still is not for sale on its own, AFAIK.

Get the $129 deal HD has right now. That's a realllly good deal. It has the tool, a 2ah , 4ah and charger... which make the 4ah and charger $30 more.

Yep. There's overlap but they're basically two different kinds of tools. I have the RA DG & rotary. I use the former mostly for tough rust removal and switch over to the rotary for finer work that the DG can't reach or is too coarse for, like small pitted rust pits. You can get by with just one depending on your needs, but in my case I needed both.
