3070ti tdp?
TDP is 170W.
TGP is 140W according to a number of sources.
However one reddit user reported it to be 125W+25W.

I think you are confused. Alienware is slightly better quality. If same price is a toss up since Alienware is a little better built quality but lower wattage on the GPU and thermal is not as good as Legion 5 but very minor

In the past maybe. The m15 R7 has an all plastic chassis while the Legion 5i (the one on sale rn) has aluminum. Maybe the Legion isn't worth $200 more but Alienware for sure dropped the 'quality' ball this time around.

Edit: Legion 5i not 7i

I ordered one a week ago and returned it immediately because a huge clump of dead pixels in the center of the screen.

Second one being delivered today. Hopefully more luck.

He was comparing it with Legion 5 though, not with Legion 7.

Ok I'm going to ask a dumb question. Why does it seem like the laptops are almost better deals than the desktops? is an i7 12th gen/3060 the same in the laptop as it is in a desktop?

Purchased the m15 r5 when it was on sale for 1300 a few months back and haven't been disappointed. I'm sure this will be no different

I've handled both in-store and can confirm that though the alienware isn't poor quality by any means, it DOES feel palsticky, whereas the legions feel more solid and well put together

It's a super valid question!

Mobile variants of the same model always have less performance. You can go to CPU or GPU comparison sites like https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...vsm1445007 and compare the mobile version of a chip to it's full sized desktop counterpart and it's extremely apparent.

We will never be able to fit a 300 watt GPU in a laptop chassis, and therefore never get 300 watt GPU performance

edit to add; I've always preferred laptop chips to desktops, they consume significantly less power and are able to accomplish nearly the same task in my eyes. the only significant differences being hard drive prices are so cheap that to make a server I have a desktop with many bays, and also the lack of upgradability for a laptop i.e. pci express lanes for sound cards or GPUs or NIC cards and 3.5 / 5.25 inch drive bays that can handle add on equipment such as fan controllers or screens to monitor temps or performance etc. but an app can do that on the laptop most cases...

That was a typo on my part. I was comparing it with the Legion 5i deal.
