How much Ram can I add? Any extra space for additional ssd?

8GB DDR4 on board, 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM - 16 gb total
https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/f.../techspec/

256GB M.2 NVMe™ PCIe® 3.0 SSD
1TB M.2 NVMe™ PCIe® 3.0 SSD
512GB M.2 NVMe™ PCIe® 3.0 SSD

also 250 nits, so not crazy bright, but should be ok. 17.3-inch, FHD (1920 x 1080) 16:9 aspect ratio, IPS-level Panel, LED Backlit, 250nits, 45% NTSC color gamut for non-OLED, Anti-glare display, Screen-to-body ratio: 86 %

Just bought this from Staples for pickup. Also purchased an extra 16gb DDR4 3200 SODIMM stick from Amazon (TeamGroup Brand).

This seems like a very good deal in general. Purchasing for my mother who is about to turn 63 and uses an older Dell Inspiron 15.6 inch laptop, which has been having some screen issues lately.

I'll let you all know how it goes!

How's the screen on this?
45% NTSC, which is about 60%+ sRGB gamut with about 250 nits - which is not great.

However, The screen itself has decent viewing angles and the color is good within its limited gamut. Black levels are decent. So if you are going to use this for work and limited viewing like youtube videos the screen suffices just fine. I can say that with a 15" version and this 17x version in front of me.

In case anyone is wondering the MVMe model number is Micron 2210 MTFDHBA512QFD.

Seems like a perfect Chromebook user - unless she needs a PC for some reason.

She is very much used to Windows and I don't think she'll want to go through that retraining haha

I bought 8GB stick from Teamgroup too, for a different laptop though. The CPU in this laptop might be overkill for her need. Intel 12th generation performs well but at a cost of power consumption, twice that of AMD and 3 times of Apple CPU.

While power consumption does matter, most laptops spend most of their life plugged in like his mom's is likely to do. There is a setting to set the battery to charge at 80% or 50% for longer life on the charger.

Lol. You think 63 year old people are going to re-learn an operating system? Most of them can't use windows as it is, and it's been out for 30 years.

Sure, if the operating system is basically just a browser.

Reporting back after successful Staples pickup and addition of 16gb TeamGroup brand DDR4 SODIMM.

Ram used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089W6WV3L

Decent build quality, body entirely made of polymer (injection molded) but feels quite durable. There is a nice "texture" to the screen bezel that breaks up the otherwise plain design. Decent screen in my opinion. Perfectly fine for streaming, general office work. Unclear on maximum brightness nits, but is usable outside on a sunny day. Have not had a chance to test the battery life yet.

Removal of the back panel is very simple, all screws are Philips and only two different sizes. Used a plastic guitar pick style wedge to remove the back panel, and it pops out with ease.

Does come preloaded with McAfee bloatware and some Asus tools but not much else. One thing that is interesting is their decision to "tilt" the NVME slot to compensate for the large fan.

All in all, happy with this machine so far. This replaced my mother's Dell Inspiron 15.6 from 2015 that was having display issues. The "case" size is about the same as the old dell, but added ~1.7 inches of screen real-estate. As others have said, this is definitely overkill for my mother who is 63 and will primarily use this for streaming and light photo editing. That being said, she only gets a new computer once every decade or so, so I felt at this pricepoint this Asus was a good move.

Thanks for sharing this deal!

I added a 16GB DDR4 3200mhz stick to my unit, works great. There is one extra SODIMM slot, the 8gb it comes with is soldered.
