Hmm… I've been waiting on a sale for the 85 inch. This is a very soft sale though. Buy now or wait for Black Friday?
I have no skin in the game. You made it to this date; doesn't your spidey sense tell you to wait a bit more with BF being so close?

Ok, so double the price? Looks like almost $4k for 80 inch
There is no 80" OLED. Only one that will be double-ish cost will be the biggest size, 83". The rest will be more expensive but not double.

Ya also to reply to him I'm not suggesting don't buy this TV you need an OLED. Just that I preferred the Sony over the Samsung QN80b but decided to spend more on an OLED instead of getting this TV.

Anyone on here have experience with the Hisense U8H? Saw a demo display and it looked comparable to the higher end models that run for $4k 😵 💫

If using a TV also as a computer monitor predominantly, OLEDs has the potential to get burn-ins — major reason why I won't consider OLEDs. Considering the x90k (x90CK) from Costco after having own my Sony HX820 55" since 2012. Possibly using it as a temporarily hold over until microLEDs are affordable in the distant future.

I think a lot of folks do use as a computer monitor. Modern OLEDs aren't as susceptible to burn in as previous generations. But things like disappearing task bar and fast screen saver on no use will help. RTings has a top monitors rating, and 8 of the 10 in the top 10 are all OLEDs.

I was worried too, but my LG CX is about 2 years old now and about 2000 hours, used exclusively for gaming, no burn in at all.

Here is a reliable comparison.

Their verdict:
"The Samsung QN90B QLED is better overall than the Sony X90K. The Samsung gets brighter and has a better local dimming feature, so it displays deeper blacks with real content, meaning it's a better choice for well-lit and dark rooms. If you're also a gamer, the Samsung TV has a few more features like FreeSync VRR support. Lastly, the Samsung is better to use in a wide seating area because it has a wider viewing angle that makes the image remain consistent from the sides."

That's great, is the QN90B 65" also $1k or less? I need to pick up 65" that's no wider than 59", some frames cause problem, this Sony one, it's 57.5" I think.

It's weird that they have that rating where all the OLED TVs are so highly rated, but all their recommendations for PC monitors are LED TVs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The bad thing about RTings is that they strictly look at specs, and a bit of do they meet the spec. They do not normally look at/comment on OS issues, slowness, performance issues, defects, reliability, etc. I have tried using their recommendations 2-3 times over the past few years, and have been burned nearly everytime. The best thing I could say is that, when the televisions I had purchased DID work, they mostly matched what RTings was saying.

For instance, I bought some Vizio P Quantum $1k tv a few years ago that had a great picture when it worked. The local dimming wasn't amazing with so few zones, but the contrast, colors, HDR, etc all looked great. But there was strange audio cutout randomly (while streaming though built-in apps and with device input). The TV would freeze frequently. One time the picture just went black and wouldn't come back until unplugging/replugging in. There was also about 3-4 times that the TV just didn't turn on. All of this was withing 3-4 weeks of owning the TV. I did my own digging online and found that many others had the same issues/defects out of the box. As if anyone who purchased it would have seen at least some of the issues. Yet, RTings had this thing as one of the top rated TV's on their site that year, with glowing review/recommendation. Not one mention of any issues.

I quickly sought resolution with Vizio, and when they couldn't solve it I just returned to Costco (thank goodness for them).

And after trying to use their recommendation again, I had similar things show up immediately with those other TVs.

I would have chalked it up to bad luck and that maybe RTings just didn't see the problems, but given the prevalence of them I find it hard to believe, so I do not rely on them in the same way anymore.

So to say that OLEDs are fine these days because RTings reviews them all very highly is not a convincing statement. Sure, when they work, OLEDs will outperform LED TV's in many categories. But RTings isn't looking at the full picture most of the time, or chooses to minimize or outright leave out any commentary on performance issues/defects, including burn-in.

I believe there was also a recent news article where LG had reported losses due to their OLED business being below expectations/not performing, which to me is a sign that OLED's issues may not be solved/reduced to the point that they replace LEDs.

Just some things to think about

Not commenting on this particular line, but I bought one of sony's fairly high end TVs from a few years ago, and while the picture quality is fine, the way sony implemented the Android OS is horrible. The TV is occasionally unusable for minutes at a time, slow, stuttery, and forget about playing files from a USB. Every update has actually made the experience worse.

Is that a best TV for 1k, considering 65"?

i'd consider yea, basically they do minor improvements every year with their line

but generally speaking this tv rarely goes below 1000 dollars on sale if ever... closest way is through cashback/other similar promos

I have the 2019/2020? version of this TV. Amazing picture once calibrated. There are minor quirks that have been mostly fixed with firmware updates. One of the better non-OLED/QLED picture. Sub-$1000 is a good price.
