I'm not a home theater expert by any means, but Atmos here just refers to the fact that it can take in Atmos content, downmix it to 5.0 using height virtualization to give some height effect. It won't probably be anywhere near as good as having discrete speakers or actual upfiring speakers. At least, this is the case with my Q67CB which is a 5.1 setup.

I picked this up yesterday. I was underwhelmed especially since the one I have now is nothing special (Vizio M21-H8). But my Vizio honestly sounded SO MUCH better. Much more bass and clearer voices. I don't use it for music usually, but even the music sounded much, much better.

YMMV, but for me, its going back.

The easiest way is to create a samsung account with an .edu email. You can also get the discount through the myunidays portal, but you would need an .edu email for that too.

I click on the deal and it says $199. Even at the price you are getting a pretty decent bargain for an Dolby Atmos soundbar. How does this compare to one of those similarly priced 2.1 soundbars? Would this work with a Sony TV?

In for one at 140 + tax. Same day pick-up at my local Best Buy.

This is the cheapest, best value sound bar I've found for a few months. I will be running a 25ft HDMI cable from my Anker Nebula streaming dongle running my bedroom projector.

1 year warranty from Samsung.

I've read that Dolby Atmos doesn't work well if you have a ceiling valted on a side slope. Does anyone know if that is the case with the way this sound bar does Atmos?

Not an expert here, but this bar doesn't have up firing speakers, the atmos are virtualized, should be ok for any ceiling

How do yall think this compares to the HW-A650 3.1ch Sound bar - which i have and i think it sound tinny and thin, except for standard setting. (The surround settings are terrible)

Bass is reasonable. There is an option on the remote to increase woofer output. I have mine on a wooden stand which helps amplify the bass. It's not like a dedicated subwoofer though. My Yamaha 1070 can put out better bass despite not having subwoofer.

Black Friday seems to have died 4-5 years ago but I'm still in the mindset to sit and wait til the bitter end, see where prices go. I'll probably end up getting a Polk, I like their price/performance ratio.
