Closest Microcenter to me is about 4 hours away. I cry myself to sleep every time I see awesome deals at their store. I plan to make a field trip there some day.

For those that need a decent amount of SATA ports for storage and/or optical drive(s), beware, this board only has 4 SATA ports. I was about to pull the plug, but I currently have 7 SATA devices...
Yes, I could get some new larger drives, use more M.2, etc, but that just adds to the difficulty of changing over.
lol...
7 SATA devices in 2022?
in a "gaming" marketed mobo/rig?
even my server in the basement only has 4 Confused

I really want it... but dunno if I need it. I rather enjoy my 24c/48t Ivy Bridge workstation so this would be a downgrade in number of cores and threads, but the speed and power efficiency could make up for it.

Then again, I don't have any DDR4 RAM so that would make the cost go up even more.

Decisions, decisions.

I'm not looking for a gaming rig. I use it mostly for video editing. I'm attracted by the price obviously.

I tend to re-use old drives until they show troubles. I currently have two optical drives, one SATA SSD for fast storage, a 4TB that holds all my videos, two 2TB (one for music and another for photos) and a 1TB for games, etc.

So yes, I know I can reduce to 4 SATA drives, but it will require me to buy at least a couple new drives and probably eliminate an optical drive. Its probably time, that's why I said I pulled the trigger above. I will probably also buy a 6TB spinner and a 1TB M.2. Reuse my existing 512GB M.2 and get rid of all the existing drives except my BD optical burner and my Hitachi 4TB. That will leave a spare SATA port for expansion.

Thanks for the data! Maybe I need to try out non-HDR 1080p encodes to see if there is a difference. I do a lot of 4k crunching. Mostly to 4k, but also to 1080p, also predominantly HDR.

NVEnc is 2-3X faster....but....file sizes end up 2 - 10X larger with similar quality. Frown
With the 12700K I should get close to NVEnc speed but keep quality. That's my hope once I finally assemble anyway.

I'm also like you with upgrades...don't always need them...don't do them regularly...but when a deal presents itself...buy it and sell the last gen quick!
So, I actually decided to do a little more of a test. I re-encoded the same Top Gun movie I mentioned. It took 18 minutes with the NVENC. Using the same exact settings (as close as possible) using CPU software encoding, it took 3hrs with the 3700x at 100% load most of that time. Visually, I do not see any difference in the quality. However, you were correct, the file size for the CPU Software encode was significantly smaller. It came in around 6.3GB instead of 10.4GB. Is that enough of a space savings to justify 2.6 extra hours (3hrs vs 20 minutes) of my computer being sluggish due to the CPU load? That's debatable.

I am doing this 12700K upgrade and I'll compare again times once the build is done and tweaked. I will be waiting a short time to build because I need Noctua to send my the 1700 mounting kit (for free). I expect it might take 2 weeks to get that based on when I had them send me the AM4 kit 3 years ago.

I looked for this last night and there were none. Double checked this morning and there was 25+. I don't have one near me, but I do have a good friend in NJ that does and frequents the store. He reserved it and shipped it all within a couple hours this morning. I made sure to give him extra for the time and still saved nearly $200 overall. This is a nice upgrade from my 8700k.

Thanks for posting this deal Smilie

These Microcenter deals are usually always just for 1 single Motherboard and usually just 1 particular CPU. That is not the same as their $20-$50 CPU/MB bundle discount. This is a free MB, which saves quite a bit.

There are 4 current deals:

Great deal! I got one from MicroCenter Tustin. I also used the $25 coupon, the total price is $325 before tax. There are 5-6 motherboards left.

I have 6 2TB SSDs which I got for free from work with EOL hardware so I'm in the same boat where I need a bunch of sata ports with raid.

I'd consider if it was ddr5. Im upgrading a 7 year old system, so might as well spend a touch more for the better components
