Amazon [amazon.com] - POWERTEC AF1045 Remote Controlled 3-Speed Air Filtration System (655/875/1060 CFM) - $132 + Free shipping

Been eyeing this air filtration unit for dust in wood workshop and was deciding between this and the equivalent Wen 3417. It's regularly ~$245+ so this is the lowest price ever right now for sure. It's even cheaper than its 400 cfm counterpart. $68 cheaper than the previous WEN 3417 which made FP awhile back @ $200.

I tell you what... I always just duct taped a 20x20x1 filter to the back of a 20" box fan, until some awesome people here on SD told me about the Corsi-Rosenthal box... now I have several.

The filtration in them is insane!! Way better than these shop filters, or even high end air filters.

Basically it's supposed to be four 20x20x2 , Merv13 filters, and a box fan. But that's for air scrubbing virions/bacteria. I'm scrubbing dust. So I made it with 20x20x1 Merv8's. And instead of four filters, I went with three as I have the fans hanging up blowing air horizontally vs vertically.

I bought the red Lasko B20548's for $20 at Sams ($10 off), which has a "2000cfm" on high, but I keep it on Low "1500cfm". And with 4 filters , it doesn't change air flow at all.

So, for $60, I got a crazy strong high cfm filter.

Thanks to the people here that told me about it, so I could make my own for less than the shop filter I was going to buy, and better than what I was using. It's made a huge difference in my area.

Just curious but why wouldn't you just buy 3 400-500 cfm exhaust fans for around $35 each. Build a box to fit a very common size filter and put a 3 way switch to run 1 or 2 or all 3 fans at once? Am I missing something?

Cool idea but it looks pretty big. If you have the space that's a good way to go. The shop filter from OP looks a lot more compact.

2 sets of complete filter changes is $80 on amzn. 5 micron outer and 1 micron inner filter. The wireless remote and timer make this interesting, but I avoid proprietary consumables. TU for unit price.

probably need something else. This is more for sawdust. Not sure the size of cigar smoke particles. You probably need something with a carbon filter.

I have the Wen version of this, i run it in my shop along with my dust collector, it actually collects a pretty good amount of airborn dust

I bought the reusable Jet outer filter, i just wash it off once a month or so and I havent had to replace the inner filter yet, been running it for about 2 years now

Any links showing the numbers that imply this approach is much better? Strapping the filter to the fan seem to work well to building. One of these seem to result in pretty low air flow due to low fan power
