I've never owned a stainless steel wok, but serious eats recommends carbon steel over stainless steel. Woks need to be light, quick to heat, and relatively nonstick when seasoned to work well, and stainless steel is well, non of those things.

As a person who works in food, specifically , chinese foods—-I recommend a smaller wok because most home stoves can not produce enough BTU to make this thing hot enough and fast enough. You can try to cook in smaller portions but this may not work as well. Constant upkeep to keep the patina is also important. Never use soap to wash and keep dry to prevent rust. Season with green onion, leak or onion until crispy or use the oven method but wrap handles to prevent charring.

Can anyone advise how is this compared to stainless steel wok?
I had been waiting to get a good deal on quality wok.

Great find OP!

I bought this back in 2015 and can't believe I paid 28 bucks! This is a really good price on a good, no nonsense wok.

I bought this back in the day based on serious eats recommendation. Apparently, they no longer recommend it because it kept going in and out of stock, but for this price I think it's a steal!

I don't stir fry much, but I got one for my mom who abuses it, and so far it has held up well.

I have this wok. The seasoning has a tendency to flake off eventually, leaving bare metal behind again. Besides that I really love it, and I am certain my issue has something to do with giving it a great seasoning when brand new, something I did not do.

If you take care of carbon steel correctly, this will last a long time. Treat it like cast iron and you'll be fine.

Stainless steel is horrible, I've never had a carbon steel one so this will be my first. My question about seasoning though, for my cast iron I'm supposed to coat it with oil and put it into the oven. But I've seen videos where they just seemed to put oil in it over high heat and then it seemed to maintain the slick surface. Is that all you need to do to keep it slick?

I can't imagine using stainless steel for a wok. Carbon steel is normal, or cast iron if you're really strong. Woks need a coating of seasoning to take the high heat of quick cooking, and clean up almost instantly for repeated dishes in a meal.

It shouldn't. No carbon steel cookware should have Teflon.

Bought this 6 years ago for about double the price. It's been pretty decent but I'd probably get something better now.

The Serious Eats guide recommends a 2mm thick wok and this is only 1.5mm. People also seem to dislike the handle.

Great price though... Hm...
