While very helpful while they lasted, I believe I had this exact same kit and both 'guides' broke quickly under what I'd consider to be light / occasional homeowner use. *Wasn't building a deck or using an impact driver.

It slides over a screw to keep it steady. It's actually very handy for doing drywall screws.

Use a little grease or lube, prob got some dirt inside the sleeve. They should only rarely fail, I've used many and only has 1 craftsman break on me, my fault tho

FYI: Not impact rated. They'll work fine at the end of a drill but will break with repeated use in an impact.
I'm a "right tool for the job" type so when driving screws I almost always use an impact.
