Incredible deal! I ordered. I hope this one is better than last years because last year the chasis would get really hot after gaming and I had issues with the restart hanging after doing a windows update. The restart might've happened more than once, I forgot.

Does anyone have experience with this new model?

You should look into using an app called ThrottleStop, allows you to cap the wattage/voltage or frequency of your chip and it'll keep it from getting too hot and allow you to game for much longer. It's a game changer for me.

edit; for an example I have the i7 8750h + 1070maxQ from Gigabyte Aero 15, it normally cooks the CPU so high it'll begin to throttle my CPU to a lower speed, but by then my GPU is also throttling to much slower performance because the CPU and GPU share the same heatsink. if I cap my CPU to 3.5ghz or 28 watts it'll let my GPU scream since it allows more room for the GPU to dump it's heat into the heatsink instead of the CPU saturating it.

you can go one step further and use MSI Afterburner (it works on non MSI GPUs) and cap the wattage of your GPU so that you get solid performance without it feeling like you've got a piece of Chernobyl on your lap.

Does not work on 12th gen intel processors.

No way!? This is so disappointing.

Not sure. I had a laptop with i7-12700H and the only option was to use ASDIedit in windows to disable cores at the kernel level. Even window's traditional disabling of turbo by setting max CPU % to 25% or something did not work according to HWINFO in my testing.

I think Intel's thread director (new on the big.little stuff) controls everything in 12th gen +. Days of tweaking for battery are definitely over for intel cpus.

I read here that it's likely an issue with Windows 11 security/virtualization settings and BIOS settings locking people out of controlling the CPU

https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...es.294023/

so, possible fix in the future? also I don't ever plan on using windows 11 I'm going to stick with 10 anyways but the BIOS issue still remains for me. those can be flashed with unlocked BIOS however, but it's annoying that it even has to be done. at least it CAN be done theoretically...

Great info to pass on! I prefer windows 11 myself but learning this is a disappointment. Windows 11 is the future and I keep my laptops for 5 years or so, so no way I could buy a 12th gen intel while planning to downgrade it to win 10 and expecting it to last 5 years.

I have a Nitro with the same keyboard layout. I would buy this if it didn't have the same layout. I would love the jump from the 1660, but I hit "up arrow" instead of right shift accidentally too many times for me to ever consider buying another laptop with this keyboard style. It might be my dumb fat fingers, but it is just not easy for me to transition from a standard layout to a half key on shift. I actually stopped playing twitchy games because of this.
