I bought the Dell Alienware 34" ultra widescreen monitor back in 2018(?) for around $1200
Now you can find ultra wides for $500, or OLED ultra wides for the same price I paid
That seems fair? You paid $1200 for a monitor that you enjoyed for 4 years and is still relevant enough today (and still works) that you can wait till you find the next best thing. Seems like a great deal already.
New things come out, old things get cheaper - that's kinda how tech (generally) works, lol. Seems weird to complain about it. And $1200 was certainly not "early adopter" price like this listing.

Agreed. I'm not sure what they were expecting…a depreciating asset to mature?

This display doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Is it a TV or a gaming monitor? It appears there is still no DisplayPort on this —even though it's being marketed to gamers with the curve, high refresh and gaming settings options. It also seems to have the regular smart features of an LG TV.
LG needs to get this closer in price with the 42" C2 or at least the Asus ROG Swift PG42UQ (which has 138Hz refresh, DisplayPort 1.4a, as well as two HDMI 2.1 ports) to make it somewhat justifiable price-wise. At this price point it's competing with the Samsung Odyssey Arc, which, while not OLED, is a 55" 1000R Curved 165hz 4k panel and has more built in functionality for multitasking (current price $2999 USD.)
Nevertheless, we are entering exciting times for gaming monitors and I'm very interested to see what new products CES 2023 will bring us come January.
