Each movie is a little different, but in the case of movies done on film if they go back to the original negative to capture a modern 4K copy and then touch it up and add HDR/Dolby Vision, then yes - it would add a lot. Depending on how nice a TV you have this could be the best a movie has ever looked for you.

In the case of Wall-E it was finished at 2K resolution and that is all there will ever be of it, but a movie like that with Dolby Vision added and on a good OLED TV is worth the upgrade.

Criterion releases in general are known for the attention to detail.
Consider not buying these from Amazon. They drop the prices to match Barnes and Nobles' bi-annual 50% sale. I imagine it's likely that if/when B&N goes out of business, Amazon stops with the 50% sale.
I would highly recommend buying these from B&N, since they've been doing these sales forever OR buying direct from Criterion
Bought most of these from barnes and noble yesterday half off. Love the half off sales.

So, even at the B&N sale, these 4K titles still only come up at $24.99?

Have they ever gone below that price?

Do Criterion releases come with digital codes? It doesn't appear to be so, just double checking.

Picking up a Wall-E.

Considering the age of some of the films, does Blu-ray add much to the viewing experience?

No - I cannot find that they have.

Some of these could potentially be lower if they were included in a Target B2G1 sale, but only slightly. Double Indemnity is the extreme example - only $28.99 at target normally.

Malcolm X and Wall-E are definitely good buys since they're basically pre-orders.

They have a pretty sophisticated restoration process. You can see details of that here [youtube.com]

Thanks - Library have a lot of Criterion films, but not the Blu-ray versions. Just curious as to any differences. Most of what I watch are foreign films (like Kurosawa's) from the 50's or 60's. Often B&W.

I upgraded the ones from DVD to Bluray just for that extra pixel going from 720p to 1040p. Also because Bluray is sturdier. Some films are worth the 4k upgrade. This will be my first taste of the 4k treatment The reviews I read of Red Shoes 4K is stellar, so is a blind buy for me. Wall-E 4k only for the extra material. When Baron Munchhausen comes out, I might as well spring for the 4k for the additional $5 ($19.99 vs $24.99 during a 50% sale).
