If you are willing to gamble a bit, AAFES has done 25% off these watches for black Friday the past couple years.

Paid $4400 for my USED white Seamaster earlier this year. Checked AAFES but they didn't have my model then but this is an absolute steal.

Let's make this good deal even better:

https://www.myecp.com/CustomerAds/Page/Exchange

if you open a military star card you'll get an extra 10% back as a statement credit (it was 15% a couple weeks ago, but 10% is still pretty good, and stacks with this sale)
if approved online you'll get the temporary card/expiration/cvv right away. all purchases made the first day you have the card are eligible for 10% back, but you may have to call them if you order something and it gets charged later when it ships.

if you open or already have a military star card (and use it for this purchase) you also get 12 months of no payments and 0% interest on watches $799 or more

If you were James Bond, would you wear this omega watch OR a smart watch you can chant with Mi6?

this.

I bought the outgoing 1861 Hesalite and sold it after 2 weeks. the scratches on the hesalite despite my being aware and cautious while wearing was just too much for my ocd to adjust to. Good looking watch and most important, these are good prices for the omega models!

Damn I tried this but I didn't get the card #. I called and they said I had to wait for the physical card. Oof.

I've been waiting for this deal to come back for the speedmaster but want the sapphire model for practicality (I tend to beat up my watches). Any way to buy the hesalite from AAFES and exchange at an AD for the sapphire?

I agree… I went with sapphire, it's well worth it for both reasons you mentioned. The hand wind movement is gorgeous and it's a shame they hide it away forever. If all you have ever had with a display caseback is an automatic, the speedy is literally twice as nice as you don't have a rotor weight blocking half of it. They do have the same movement at least now though. The previous models used cheap looking, unfinished movements with a derlin (plastic) brake on the hesalite model (because you couldn't see it anyway)

And sapphire is absolutely the best crystal material for everyday use. Sure you can buff out most dings with polywatch, but people think it's some kind of magic wand. It's literally just an abrasive paste. Every time you use it you are permanently removing layers of plastic. To buff out a scratch, you need to remove enough layers of plastic so that the new top level of the watch is below the deepest part of the scratch.

For tiny little surface scratches that are only a few microns deep, no problem. But the more you buff, the more plastic you are removing until the crystal becomes thin and brittle and eventually instead of scratching, it cleaves.

I like acrylic crystal, I like the "warmth", my Datejust has an acrylic crystal. But there's a reason 99% of modern luxury watches have sapphire crystals...
