This is story driven. The only combat comes in the form of pressing whatever button pops up on screen. It's a fantastic game with tons of branching choices. After each chapter, it shows all the choices you made and the paths they led, and it shows a bunch of different branches of what you could have done. Sometimes there are 60+ choices you could've made in a chapter. It's nuts. It has so much replay value. There are several different endings. Any of your playable characters can live or die. Have you ever played Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain or Beyond: Two Souls? All of those games are made by this developer and they're all that style. They have a new Star Wars game in the works, too. They're by far my favorite dev.

Loved this game. My wife (who hates video games) asked me to play every evening instead of watching TV so we could make the decisions and watch the story together. Definitely teared up a few times.

I died in one of the levels and it threw me back to the beginning. Stopped playing after that too much time wasted for no payoff.

I am a fan of the genre, for shows like Westworld, Humans (BBC/AMC) or movies like Ex Machina etc. There are some weak spots in the plot but overall it was a good engaging story that got me hooked from the start and I really enjoyed this game. I played it on PS4 so can't speak to the PC port. Definitely recommend if you like this style of game.

In terms of really emotional storytelling, yes, very similar. But Detroit has much more substantial story forks with truly different outcomes and situations that the Telltale games don't really do, even if they have "different" endings.

The only negative points about Detroit is that the story has quite a few plot holes and some lazy writing (not in the dialogue but some of the ways events play out), but overall you'll easily look past those.

It's much more than most interactive story games -- besides your decisions determining which of the main characters live/die and their endings, they also impact future options your player actions, and which locations are visited (and of course how other characters react to your past decisions).

I literally just finished this last night on my ps5. It runs fantastic -- not sure if you were trying on the base ps4, but they had also included ps4 pro enhancements to run very smoothly at 30fps.

Overall the visuals are excellent and controls very responsive. With the exception of a few low poly objects -- like hands and fingers, unfortunately very distracting -- you could be fooled into thinking this had a ps5 update.
