aa batteries
In my opinion that's an inconvenience and a waste of resources and money. For an item that doesn't get used very often the battery is never going to be charged when I need it, not to mention battery life will degrade. Am I supposed to go spend $150 on lifepo8 with lights with USB c 3.3 because "those are the best specs?" Yeah no. I always have rechargable AAs ready to go and these will serve my purposes just fine.

Are they bright enough? What's the run time before they dim/or needs replacement batteries?

I've bought these on clearance a couple of times for around $7. Good lights with an interesting design; the red base hinges open so you can clamp it on objects like doors, joists, car hoods, etc. It's easy to position and adjust to get light where you need it. AA, so definitely buy a couple packs of good rechargeable batteries.

That depends entirely upon the batteries that you're using.

It's pretty bright but has a lower light setting to extend battery life.

I've been pleasantly surprised with almost every Hypertough purchase in the past year or so (mostly trying to build my 12yo's tool collection, only to envy him)…looks like a nice design and excellent price.

Some of these lights have really bad runtime, they drain batteries very fast, similar to those flashlights I got, they eat through batteries. In comparison, my Mag Light from ages ago still strong. I don't know what makes cheaper lights eat batteries much faster, but there seems to be inconsistency. I would go with something rechargeable instead. Yes, if battery is dead it's a paperweight but rather have something I can use for several years instead of eating through batteries.

People use these "lights" in USUALLY dim or less than, situations, like night-time.
