While any discount is nice, anyone currently in the market should look at the R6mkII instead.
Its not worth the upgrade from an R6 if you are a current owner, but I see no reason to buy an R6mkI these days. (I have an R6 and love it, but will not be upgrading).

No, not worth it anymore. It's pathetic how Canon comes out with an R6-ii right now when the R6 is only 2 years old. If R6-ii came out next year, i would have given them a freebie but to come out this year, anyone who about an R6 literally screw themselves over right now. Spend the extra $300 usd and just get an R6-ii. Hopefully canon doesn't continue this dumb trend of releasing a new model every 2 years.

There is plenty of cameras for this price range with much better MP counts. However; this camera shines for capturing fast moving subjects with superb autofocus and fast burst rates along with a larger buffer. Lower MP is generally better for lower light situations as well. It's also really well spec'd as a video camera.

If you don't know why you need the extra MP, think landscape photography, cropping, etc… for most, 20MP is more than enough.

I think under 2k is the sweet spot for this camera, especially with the release of the MKII

I actually am a landscape photographer, along with abstract and macro. 2 or maybe 3 years ago, i bought the canon RP right before christmas, for 872, including tax, using the canon loyalty program, allowing 20% off the price of 999. It has worked great for me, I love it. It has great low light performance, and I'm able to use all my EF lenses, with the supplied adapter. 26 MP, full frame mirrorless. I've probably had 50,000 snaps on it, and it always works well. I may not be fashionable, or the leader of the pack, I just want something that works well, for as low a price as possible. I will upgrade if something better comes along with a great deal on BF or after christmas, but you won't catch me spending 2.5 K.

I think it depends. I got my R6 Just 1 year ago about or less. I am happy with the R6 but had a few minor issues. When I saw the canon r6 mark 2 announced I was a bit upset wishing It just came out earlier before I got the R6 so I could try both to see which I love better. If you look at what canon did with the buttons some people might prefer the R6 Original design So i think still worth to post.

I too got my Canon R with the 24-105mm L kit lens for like $1900 before tax with free SD card back in 2019 around Christmas via their Canon Loyalty program as well. The R has been fantastic and the only thing that would get to upgrade to the R6 ii is IBIS and uncropped 4k video.

Do you or anyone here have any idea how often Canon runs their Loyalty program?

They don't run it for newer cameras but I think the R6 and R5 are eligible now.

But I've used it 4 times, without being denied. But I hear that it's 10% now instead of 20. I have not verified that. The program I used required a serial number from an older canon camera. I used the serial from an ancient point and shoot canon camera to get the 20% off my RP. They don't require you to send in the camera, they just want the serial.

Still worth to post but the $300 dollar difference between the R6 and R6-ii is not enough to go with the R6 over the R6-ii. Sony's a7-iii and a7-iv have a $500 price tag difference and especially when the a7-iii goes on sale for $1,800, then that's a $700 price tag difference that makes you decide between the two cameras. Right now, no brainer is to get the new R6-ii period. Just add $300 dollars more and you got yourself the latest camera. That's why i said Canon pulled an azzhole move by releasing the R6-ii way too early. As much as R6 owners are trying to find every excuses to keep their R6, you cannot deny that they felt some pain when Canon announced an R6-ii this year already.

Trust me, skip out on the R6 and get the R6-ii.

Thank you for that reminder. I've since went on Reddit and also read the same thing regarding Canon not permitting new models to get discounted. The R was released in 2018 and the loyalty post here on SD was late 2019 which was when I got mine.
