How realistic was that MSRP? $1,000 seems absurd (I'm not very knowledgeable of ceiling speakers though)

No doubt the MSRP is a joke, but a great deal nonetheless. I've been tracking these for a while, and they seem to alternate between $999 and $299.

What is are the main differences between the 8" and the 6.5" SONANCE pairs?

If I am using these as rear surrounds with a AMP and a SONOS ARC - what would be recommended?

This would be for a large living room with 28' tall ceilings

28' ceiling, if you have enough of them you can fill the room, but remember you will be very far away unless you put your furniture on stilts. If you are looking for something pretty sounding you may be better off with wall mount, in wall, or something nearer to your listening position. For it to get loud you will need many speakers in ceiling, and depending on floor covering, roof type, and wall/window treatments, quite boomy.
