Fingers crossed this works with the accessories from my now broken dremel versaflame, looks like it uses the same shroud and the dremel unit was great, but a new one is 50 bucks (I got it on an SD back when and it's been great to have).

What are the pros of this one compared to say Kingsford lighter from Costco? Other than that you can refill the fluid obviously.

I own the costco ones and I was looking for something like this for more control. Also the ability to refill is a plus

Does the fire shoot out like a torch or is it just like a regular lighter?

I have one of these and really like it. I also like the fact that there is a safety that has to be pushed down in order for it to turn on and it also is hard to push (for children at least). I have 2 kids.

On this same note, could this be used to start a fire by forcing the flames into the wood as opposed to just lighting a piece of starter and hoping it catches? I am not sure if I am asking this right, but I am basically wondering if this thing is strong enough to get a firepit fire going without needing something like those wax starters...

I had the Ronson torch which is made by zippo. That one was recalled, but I still have the soldering attachment which is great for soldering 10awg wires!

Thanks for sharing!

You'd probably be better off using something like a trigger-start propane torch to start fires with. I have a Bernzomatic one that I've used to start fires in my firepit and it works great. If your wood is dry, it usually takes less than 10s to get it burning with the torch.

You can either use it on the tall, skinny propane tanks or the cheaper 1lb camping propane tanks as well. One tank lasts forever if all you use it for is to start fires with.

No, you want it slow. The torch burn it too fast. I think you are talking the fat-wood. Even those gasoline fire starter spray burn a bit too fast too.

Perfect - this was the answer I was looking for. Think I'll defer this deal and look for a proper torch.

I bought one of these and I really don't like it. The safety is difficult to use and uncomfortable. Need two hands to engage it most of the time. Would not recommend.

Haven't seen $1.00/can recently but getting close (4cans/$6.00) at a couple of the local Asian (Korean) markets here in San Antonio. I got that recommendation from a YouTube video from Toronto.

This is for the larger camp stove type cans - mine are 8oz with a, ~7mm stem. I've seen similar products on Amazon which use much smaller cans and some which have a longer filler stem.

Can anyone here comment on the different size cans and stems regarding whether they can be used interchangeably, or not?
