How many devices can I install Affinity apps on?
As a private individual you can install Affinity apps on as many devices as you own which run the operating system you have purchased a license for (of course in the case of a Universal License that means you can install on any iPads, Macs or Windows PCs you own). Other people (for example, members of your household) are also allowed to use the apps on those devices. However, only you are allowed to use the apps for commercial use—if any members of your household need to make commercial use of the apps as well they will need to purchase their own license.
For commercial enterprises, education and other multi-user situations, each license can either be assigned to an individual or a device. For example, one Windows license could be used by a single employee on both their Windows desktop and laptop computer. Alternatively, that license could be assigned to a single Windows computer which is used serially by multiple employees.
For more information please see our Windows, macOS or iPad license agreements.

I purchased each app individually as they released and have the same offer as someone that might only purchase on a promo on release. Doesn't give me much incentive to upgrade now as I am sure they will run normal specials like they have in the past for everyone.
maybe it is because I am not a professional and don't use the software professionally but to just fiddle around with and for small things here and there. so don't see upgrading as that imperative unless given an incentive for being a loyal customer. With no upgrade incentive might as well just wait until V3 comes and or can skip every other release if they are just going to incentivize new purchases on release. If that makes sense.
With what you are suggesting, they won't be in business nor have an incentive to continue doing business if they are continually losing money.
So they are weighing everything on new or soon to be new customers and not doing anything for anyone that purchased the apps previously, or like myself who purchased all three apps on Windows.
Not saying it would have had to be a discount, could have been a promo with an extra bundle of items or whatever. When the only ones not getting anything extra are the long time customers, well that is a lack of customer loyalty and the type of attitude that companies like Adobe pull all the time.

OTOH someone who bought Affinity in the last few months effectively bought an old products. It's quite common for software developers to give free updates to people who bought the old version recently.
But also, we are talking $99 for the entire suite -- $33 per app w/ a universal license. Or you can pay $40 for a single app with a lifetime license on one platform. How much more would you expect Affinity to discount a feature packed product that was expensive to develop. Being that each one does 91% of what the comparable Adobe app does, not sure how any one can complain IF the updated app offers tools worthwhile to them to update. You can't even fill up a car w/ gas for $33.
But, if as you say, the new features in v2 offers you not much incentive to upgrade, then there is your answer. No need to spend the money and you can keep using v1, no problem. But I don't think you can fault Affinity for not completely giving away there product which they likely spent a lot of money one to develop.

Also the long time users are those of us on their forums giving them free feedback, reporting bugs etc so they could get to V2. So again unless they want to shut down their forums and pay for bug fixes and groups to think of new features etc then you would expect some sort of user loyalty.

I would definitely expect upgrade discount if I paid $500 for the previous version. But asking or expecting it if I paid $25 or even $50 two years ago - not so much. Especially considering that it is just a fraction of Adobe or C1 subscription cost to begin with.
You are disappointed not because of the price you have to pay for v2. But because you, as the long time user, had not been treated differently than the new ones.
Bingo

You could say that it is the price of doing business, but if you look at how Adobe ran things over the years they did the same thing. Except they actually gave some discounts for upgrades, until they eventually decided to go monthly only.
Anyone that will treat a customer the same or better than hasn't spent a dime on their product in relation to someone that has invested time and money on the product is a bad company or has lost their way. Like I said it wouldn't have had to be the moon, but they did absolutely zero for existing customers. That is weak. Period. Like I said it could of been a bundle with brushes or fonts or whatever. Something. but instead they person they did the least for is the customer that has spent money on their product and showed they support them. That is a bad business model and shows no good well to the existing community.
Or…
1 machine, multiple users.
I'm torn on this buy. We used to see $25 single titles all the time. I'm probably going to get it though, since Photo makes me money. I'm sure Designer would, too. I've farmed out enough simple vector work.
Incorrect. Check the reply earlier from user sodakar. The FAQ states personal licenses can be installed on any machines you own and can be used by you and family members. Only you can use it commercially if you have the personal license. For commercial licenses, the FAQ states you can assign licenses to users or machines, your choice.

The entitlement here is palpable...
These apps are great for folks who need to do occasional graphics editing and don't want to deal with the evil empire Adobe.
When companies like Microsoft that get sued for anti-trust do more to show loyalty to customers it just kind of shows that Affinity wasn't even thinking about customers. I didn't even get an email from them about the updates until late this afternoon. It is clear they are targeting new users and just not caring how they treat the existing user base.
