Seems like a great deal. My i7 8700 still works great. I imagine this will last you at least 3-4 years

Hard to recommend this over a $120 Ryzen 5600 and whatever $130 board.

I guess it's priced to market, but I wouldn't haul cross town to buy one.

What would you guys do? I have a Ryzen 2700x with a Rog Strix x470 mb. I'm debating whether to purchase this Intel combo or the ryzen 5 5600 for around 120 and stick with the x470 mb.

IMO Just swapping for a 5xxx is the way to go.

When it comes to micro center's cpu/board combos lately, I think the ryzen ones if your looking for cheap or the 12700k/z690 for something better is the way to go. This isn't bad for an i7 combo, but performance wise, this one is getting long in the tooth while the 12th and now 13th gen i7's have had pretty good gains.

I don't have a logical comparison or score numbers
but for $249 this processor and updated motherboard
I would get this one, you should be able to recover at least 160 from your ryzen processor and board

I'd 100% just upgrade to a 5600 or 5800x if you want to get wild and then do full system refresh in ~4 years or so.

I appreciate the suggestions. I went ahead and reserved this combo for pick up tomorrow while I decide on which direction to go. I'm leaning towards Ryzen to hold me over for a few more years. Then make the jump to a ddr5 combo. Or, get this combo, sell the Ryzen with mb to offset some of the cost and I'll be good for awhile.

Is this deal better or the one from like a month ago with the 3700X and the ASUS B550-PLUS Prime Motherboard for $200?

I read somewhere in the forums that the Prime motherboards are more for entry level. But I also read that the 11 series is not that great...

Love seeing more computer motherboard deals about time. I had no intention to, but now thinking about buying this deal.

I have the 2700x. I decided to skip the new build and get a 5800x. It is still a huge upgrade without any extra costs.

I did pay 200$ for my 11700k if I could turn back time I would have stuck with a 5600x tbh. Just my opinion

I'm on an i7-7700, nowhere to go on that mobo which I learned very soon after buying it. (Aside from the 7700k)

It's still fine for my needs. But I thought way back when I bought it I'd be good for the 8700k maybe even the 9700 series.

When I upgrade there would have to be a killer bundle deal to stop me from moving back to AMD.

buy that 5900 that's on SD today and be good for a couple more years. if you already have an x470 the 5900 or 5950 would get you the longest use for your $$
