How much a difference is there between the 500 and 700? The 700 is also on sale. Debating if I should just get a complete sound bar + sub combo or splurge on the 700.

The 700 I heard is more powerful for sure. For me, I wanted some bass for family room and I didn't need a super powerful sub. I have a tower speaker surround sound in basement where anything goes. If we're buying for basement, I'd get the 700 for that.

One good thing is that you can add 2 subs to the Bose soundbar. So I can always add another if I need it.

I have both, Bose 300 with 500 sub for the living room and 900 with 700 for the basement.
If you watch movies on a regular volume, then 700 is not worth it, but if you like it loud, similar to a movie theater experience, then yes, get a 700
