Been waiting for a big ass TV to go on sale, for Xmas for my pa-in-law, and the time has finally come.

Seems like a much better deal than the TU7000 from Walmart or Best Buy. Same price but with a 5y warranty (instead of 1), a very slightly bigger screen, better viewing angles (IPS panel), 120hz, 4 HDMI ports (instead of 2), HDMI 2.1.

The sale for this was originally slated for the 14th at $1100, according to their Black Friday catalog. I guess they decided to let it go live early & reduced the price!

Edit: I am a little confused why their thumbnail says 2 HDMI when it has 4. I looked up the manuals online on LG's website though and it says 4 in total, 2 x 2.0 & 2 x 2.1.

Edit2: Apparently IPS, 120hz, VRR, & 2 extra HDMI ports (2.1) are unique to the 86" model. Anything smaller is a VA panel, has 2 HDMI ports, only 2.0, no VRR, & 60hz.

Edit3: My pa-in-law mounted it in his living room & has been using it for a few days and is absolutely in love with it. Merry early Christmas, Dale

This one or an 85 qled/full array (about twice the price) for a dark room? I will use it mainly for watching movies.

Edit: Never mind....

From rting
"The LG UQ80 is okay for most uses. It's good for use in rooms with a few lights around while watching TV shows or using it as a PC monitor as it has decent reflection handling, but it doesn't get bright enough to fight a ton of glare. It's also decent for watching sports thanks to its wide viewing angle, but its motion handling isn't special, as there's image duplication. Unfortunately, it's mediocre for watching movies in dark rooms as blacks look gray, and the TV lacks a local dimming feature to further improve the contrast."

I went to the store this morning to buy one and I left empty handed. The model in the store showed all this static pixelation that completely ruined the picture.

The brightness and colors were clearly not as good as other TVs, but for the price I would have been okay with it...I think the colors looked worse because it was right next to a TV twice the price.

As I said, the pixelation was unbearable. I'm not sure if it was just this specific model in the store I was at, but it was turned me away.

Was it a generic garbage stream being supplied to it you think? I guess you cannot expect much for 1k in all fairness.

it was all the sample stuff that was on all the TVs with like a racecar and then some beautiful scenery. the pixelation was on almost every screen...most noticeable in the sky. Mildly subtle, but clearly noticeable at the same time. It wasn't doing it on any other TV in the store, though. I asked a guy at the store about it. he tried wiggling the cables but that didn't help lol

I was at the store Friday and their display model didn't show any of those issues.

I went to check out the TV and noticed the same issue. The motion and video would stutter. It was right next to a smaller LG TV. The smaller LG TV was showing the same sample video and didn't have any issues.

I just went to BJ's and played with the 65" version, it looked damn good to my wife and I. It was next to a Samsung au800 model, it was better than that. Colors looked better and not washed out, clarity was good. I grabbed the remote and turned it to vivid and changed the color setting to 2.4 gama I think it was and turn the smoothness off. I promptly ordered one from cc soon after. I didn't see a race car demo, they had a girl riding a motorcycle and something with a bj commercial

The 1 issue I got with this TV is that doesnt have dolby vision....no HDR10+ either...

Just HDR 10....does that mean those netflix shows with vision wont show up as good? Or is HDR 10 good enough?
