With stock of the Schlage Encode Plus improving, do yourself a favor and just pay extra for the better deadbolt. It is probably my favorite smart home upgrade, simply tap my Apple Watch or iPhone against the deadbolt and it opens.

Sure, if you have an iPhone. If not, this is a great smart lock for a good price.

I've had this for 3 years or so. It's worked flawlessly for me. Auto-lock is nice and so is creating temp codes for people visiting. I think I may have replaced the batteries once in that time.

Can you comment on what makes the encode great? I get it has apple key. I was just looking at these - I have 3 nest Yale deadbolts at my house I'm about to take out as I move 100% away from google to HomeKit. But the price of the encode is steep. Can you create codes via HomeKit? Can you lock/unlock remotely via HomeKit? Can you set automations from HomeKit - lock/unlock by time of day, lock on motion from a camera, etc?

One thing that really stinks about the encore is that it's only offered in two finishes. I have all solid brass fixtures and they don't offer that lock in brass whereas you can get this one in brass, Nicole and aged bronze

For me what makes it so great is the Apple Home key, which as an above poster said, is only for Apple devices but since this is what my fiance and I use, it is perfect. Being able to unlock our door by just tapping our Apple Watch against the lock while holding groceries is a total game changer. Another difference between this and the Yale is the ability to use a physical key still which was a requirement for my Fiance.

You can create codes via Homekit, unlock/lock remotely via homekit too. I believe there are automations too via home kit however as I don't have a homekit hub I have no idea. It is expensive but if you use an Apple device, worth every dollar.
